After living in the valley for a little over 30 years, I've had my favorites. Owners change, and food trends change, but this experience was a nostalgic joy.
The location being tucked away in a corner makes it easy to forget, but not anymore. Upon entry, you find the classic vibrant colors, tropical theme, a few in progress technical repairs, but a clean smell. Not overy packed with chairs to expect bumping into other tables. We were warmly welcomed and told to take a seat anywhere.
Menu is not overly complicated. This is great. Classic dishes from diverse meats to their seafood specialities. While I have enjoyed fusion foods and creative varieties - here I was glad to not have an over complicated menu. We ordered a fillet w/ seafood medly in parchment paper, a garlic friend tilapia, and fish tacos. Standard time of about 30 minutes from ordering to arrival to table.
Water - NOT TAP. 👏👏👏 Was cold even with out ice. Coffee - nice, not and stout. Salsa & chips - Medium salted chips with just sufficient thickness. Salsa WAS FRESH TOMATO based (not canned) and a conservative amount of cilantro/ onion/ chile. This is actually a brilliant idea. I know we LIKE HOT/SPICY salsa - it is THE signature experience of Mexican culinary experience. However, being subtle works to its advantage here. The heat is slow to build and stays in the back of the mouth, still allowing you to enjoy it rather than being blistered by it. Were brought out crackers, tostadas, Chipotle sauce, ketchup, may, spicy mayo sauces.
Filled with medly came with appropriate amount of rice/ salad/ beans. All decently salted - not overdone. Quality of product also noted. No horrid casino banquet hall grade rice. Greens were fresh, firm, and crisp. Pico was a classic tomatoe/ cilantro and onion (with again, a controlled amount of onion/ cilantro). Tortillas - FRESH MADE. Light and STILL maintained their structure even when sauced. Not too thick or thin. 💫
White fish filet with seafood medley was soft, light, and not a single rubbery or over-cooked piece. Sauce was not over bearing or heavy handed to a particular flavor other than a soft hinted creme base. Tilapia was large, evenly garlic smothered and had firm flesh. Perfect garlic topped! 👌 Classic fish tacos - over abundant tenders. QUALITY. Every bite was CRUNCHY and with virtually no grease to contend with. Impressive. The meat was also tender yet firm. Evenly salted. While I ordered 3 tacos - enough tenders to equate to 5 tacos worth.
Total with tip was around 80.00 for mid day lunch for 3. I can't wait to come tear it up during live band hours as a pre-party and get my hands on a Michelada. Had several other patrons come and go with micheladas to go. ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for such kind, patient and accommodating wait staff for all out questions. We appreciate you and feel most welcome to come again -...
Read moreVery spacious with a bar area and small stage. Good music playing. Our waiter was really kind and very knowledgeable in the menu. He gives good recommendations. It was our first time there and definitely won't be our last. It looks like a fun party place on the weekends but still a good casual outing for a meal with family after a long day.
We ordered the Torre de Mariscos, Tostadas de Cameron, and a fish taco with horchatas. You're given chips and salsa too. My partner really liked the salsa given with the chips. It was really flavorful with the right amount of spicy. Chips were fresh as well.
Torre de Mariscos was amazing! Had shrimp, octopus and I believe scallops too. Tender and juicy. Whole and diced pieces of shrimp. You can tell everything tasted amazingly fresh and not "fishy". The portions are big enough to share which is really nice.
Tostadas de Cameron was delicious. If you want to try ceviche for the first time, get this. A bit more simplier ceviche with a pack of flavor. Shrimp was cooked & diced, tender. It was served in a cute little boat with tostadas. The sauces are different from both plates but compliment the seafood well.
The fish taco we tried was really good too! It had two pieces of fish that were crispy batter fried and put on top of a corn tortilla. The salsa, avocado, and shredded cabbage are on the side when they bring it out to you so that the taco doesn't get soggy. We compiled the taco and added the salsa from the chips on top. Delicious! Horchata was not overly sweet and very refreshing! Homemade is all I have to say.
Service was good overall. The food took a bit to come out but I believe everything's made to order. It's more of a place to chat & dine while drinking than a quick lunch break meal.
It's really hard to find a place that has not only good seafood but really fresh ingredients too. Canelo's is the place. We will definitely come back to try other...
Read moreI would rate this place a 0 but unfortunately I have to rate a 1 star to leave my review. Me and my family where out town and visit Las Vegas we yelped restaurants near us and this came up we saw pictures and read reviews and we gave it a shot, the hours says they open at 10, they don't they opened like 10:40 ish then we waited for our waiter and he got our order people started coming in and I noticed they only have one waiter at once, that should have been a red flag. The waiter took a long time to bring my mother's drink and we noticed he brought another table their food first way before us, mind you we were their first. The waiter finally brings out some of the food but forgets tortillas and other condiments. He kept taking a while to bring the rest of our food. Me and my family where really disappointed, and honestly I believe that they are short staffed after the covid 19 but if they can't have a full staff and are able to handle the restaurant then I don't know why they just don't close the restaurant and wait until they have enough staff it's not the customers fault for the shortage of staff and their horrible service the food was not that grate either don't recommend this...
