5/10 food - Hold the Disrespect We were pretty hungry so we chose this place because it had decent reviews and was empty when we arrived. There were 2 people seated at the bar who weren’t ordering food so we thought it would be fresh and somewhat quick. We each ordered one entree yet the food took 45 minutes to get to our table and the waitress told us “our food never comes out at the same time” - be prepared for that if you have more than one person in your party as it is apparently the expectation that everyone will be eating at different times. We were also not checked on once during this time frame, despite being the only people at a table. In general, I would rate the food a 5/10. It wasn’t anything special but overpriced for what it was. The sweet potato fries were a solid 8/10 tho! Very crispy and fresh. Better than a lot of others I’ve had. The main problem lies in the attitude of the male bartender that day. I ordered the “bacon jam” with my meal and assumed that it was straightforward. After 45 mins the food arrived with onion, a food I cannot physically have and that was not listed on the menu. I had to step out because I knew I was going to have to send it back and that there was the possibility of waiting another 45 mins for a replacement. By the time my food came out, my boyfriend was mostly done with his. When I came back to the table, my boyfriend told me that the bartender said that not even HE knew it came with onion - to the point of insisting it didn’t have it and checking in with the kitchen to find out it did. Yet when confronting me he said: 1.) I’m being extremely dramatic over some onions - completely ignoring when I told him it was the wait that was the problem 2.) If it’s such a big deal to me then I should always ask at every single restaurant I go to and with every single item, even if it’s not listed on the menu (this is not an exaggeration). Note that half the menu items listed onions, so I assumed the ones that didn’t, didn’t have them. This is not the case, they seem to just pick and choose where to list it. 3.) That he was blown away that I didn’t know what was in bacon jam. There was a huge implication that I was stupid for not assuming. Specifically he leaned in and said very firmly “tell me the ingredients in the bacon jam YOU’RE having then!” And then followed it up with “ no I’m not doing this” when I embarrassingly broke into tears. All of this even though he didn’t know either. I asked if I could just leave, at this point, all I wanted was to get away from him. He was feeling threatening, my boyfriend was done with his food, and I was so hungry that I couldn’t wait for a remake. He told me that I would absolutely be paying for it. That he can’t just “take a $20 burger off the bill”. Maybe they’re struggling, I don’t know. He offered to remake it, but said that I would be paying for the burger whether they remade it or not. He tried to say that wasting and remaking a burger was better than just wasting a burger for my mistake. I sat, trapped in the restaurant, and ate my sub par burger in tears as fast as I could because all I wanted to do was leave. I have never cried in a restaurant. I have never been so shamed, embarrassed, and humiliated by a server - especially over not knowing every ingredient in bacon jam. In the end, we were charged for everything, including the bacon jam add on. There are lots of burger options in Tahoe, I’d skip...

Starting off, we dove into the juicy birria tacos. These beauties were brimming with slow-cooked shredded beef, tucked inside crisped corn tortillas. Fresh jalapeños and cilantro amped up the flavor, and that rich consommé made each dip pure magic. Birria tacos can be a gamble, but Tahoe Tavern knows what they're doing—every bite was tender, juicy, and deeply seasoned.
Next up: sweet and spicy chili crispy chicken. Wing lovers, listen up! These wings nailed that crunchy exterior while staying super moist on the inside—seriously addictive. The glaze brought a little heat and a touch of honeyed sweetness, balanced by a side of crisp carrot and celery sticks. Dipping them in the ranch was a must!
The surprise hit of the meal had to be the Cuban sandwich. I’m picky about my Cubanos, but this one was stacked: smoky ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, tangy pickles, and just the right smear of mustard, all pressed together in toasty bread. Paired with those golden fries, it checked all the boxes.
Drinks were cold, the service was sharp, and everything felt relaxed and welcoming. Tahoe Tavern and Grill serves up generous portions and even bigger flavors—a must-stop for anyone in South Lake Tahoe who loves a satisfying, flavorful meal with a side of...
Read morePoor service, food was not cooked correctly. We selected this place because it had good reviews but we were very disappointed.
The brisket tacos were tough and hard to chew. The steak was ordered medium but came out over well done. It was tough and difficult to cut with a knife. I sent it back and it came back medium rare. That was better than well done but still not cooked correctly.
Don't order the ice cream drink...it had no alcohol in it. I am a light weight and it didn't give the faintest buzz and I couldn't taste any of the 3 liquors.
The salad and the potatoes were tasty!
The service was poor. There weren't many people when we were seated but it took a while for them to take our order. They brought water to the table and I noticed something black in it. The waiter said it must be pepper. Really?!!! How does pepper get unto a glass of water???!!! They forgot to give us appetizer plates, we had talked to two different wait staff to get them, and when she brought them she slammed them down and walked away without saying a word.
The seating is primarily indoors but there are two outdoor tables right beside the parked cars.
We were very polite and tried to be pleasant so that we could have a good time but there were sooòo...
