We've been here many times, and it is always a nice stop after a long walk with our dogs. Very dog friendly out back. Last night we stopped in and I was surprised after three beers when my wife and I left to see the tab. 3 beers. two pints and one can. One of their pints of lager was $7.00. Craft beer, I get it, you should pay a little more for that. My wife's was a strawberry sour and they charged $11.75. that seems rather high unless that has a higher ABV and you're paying for the pour, but most places reduce quantity and charge roughly the same if that is the case. The kicker though was that I ordered PBR after the first beer and they charged me $6.00 for a can of beer. That can of beer is sold at Meijer, Kroger, etc at $6 a six pack. They're marking the PBR up 600%. That's quite the ROI for the owners. So with tax and tip three beers was $30( I wont' short the bartender, not her fault) that averages $10 a beer. Money isn't the issue. It's the principal. I get they're a small business, I get they have to have a break even point and sell product to make ends meet, but marking a commercial product up 600% seems a bit excessive. Love the venue and the concept, not a fan of hammering paying customers with that kind of markup. *Note, see the owners reply. correct, it's a different named venue. But it is the same owner. Last night was dubbed a "free concert" but the owner states in his reply "FCBC doesn't sell PBR and it is a different venue". He failed to note it is the same owner and same management. Tells me all I...
Read moreWe got an airbnb in New Albany just for the night and went downtown looking for dinner. Ended up picking this place for the vw bug in front. Excellent service from the moment we walked in! Hostess sat us immediately, jasmine (out waitress) was super friendly and bubbly and so helpful. She gave just the right balance of checking on us and helping us with drink selections without being bothersome while we ate. Drinks were great, I got the raspberry cider and boyfriend got the Knight Drankin', an IPA. She let him taste a few before making a decision and even mentioned the flight option. We ordered the pretzel sticks with house made bier cheese- BEST IVE EVER HAD. Bier cheese was spicy but amazing and the pretzels tasted homemade (not sure if they were) and not overcooked like other places. We ordered Bison burgers which were delicious and the fries (Battle Frites) and spicy mac and cheese, were... you guessed it- DELISH! the surrounding bars are owned by the same person so are almost one meshed area and the outside ambience is fun with live music and string lights. As we left we noticed the window that boasted they were voted best restaurant, beer selection and bar. Going by our short time there (we didnt hang out long bc we were exhausted with our travels) - it's no wonder they are the best. Highly recommend...
Read moreHas been a go-to for us since it opened. Food and beer usually good. Seems to be going down hill. Last two visits have had issues. First recent visit, sat at the bar. Saw bartender use some less-than-sanitary habits (stuck bare hand in olive jar to retrieve, had his fingers in his mouth, picked up wine glass with fingers on inside of glass before pouring wine). Burger ordered well done came red on inside. Flip top mustard bottle with dried, caked mustard covering the top. Thought it might have just been a bad day. Most recent visit. Ordered a beer that was a 12 oz pour. Glass had at least 2 in of foam when delivered. Server just said 'sorry'. I let it settle. 12 oz ended up being about 8-9 oz of beer. Not paying $6 for 8 oz of beer. Service was very slow. Server walked by our table to table next to us at least 3 times and never said a word. Halfway through meal before I received a replacement drink. Food was good though. When tab came, they had added the charge for the beer, totaled the tab including tax, and then deducted just the cost of the beer. Resulting in paying tax on the item that was deducted. Not a big cost, but c'mon, get it right. Not sure what is going on at this place, but it is not the same as it used to be. Will find other...
