Back for a 4th visit. Only my very first visit was bad, Ive had a few issues with service, and one time an enchilada plate came out rushed, was not as hot as it should have been, but the experiences over the last couple visits have been consistent.

The Anthonys Deluxe has become my favorite. When baked right the cheese is liquid and has a browned top. Great flavor.

Returned today for a last chance, out of boredom and wanting to eat somewhere different.

What a difference, I ordered the Anthonys Deluxe this time. The enchiladas were very good, made with cheese that turns almost to liquid when baked. The spanish rice had good flavor, the beans were good.

My friend had a chile relleno which he said was also very good. We were both surprised by the food. Especially since I had told him about my previous visit.

After this visit I would return again, I have yet to try the mixed drinks as they are a bit pricey, but the outdoor dining area is nice.

Flavorless, overcooked crunchy fish tacos. Cream Sauce is just sour cream. Nothing with a lot of flavor.

After reading all the reviews about this place I was excited to finally try it. I ordered the fish taco plate and added a shrimp enchilada. The person I was dining with ordered the Anthonys Deluxe combination.

The 1st thing I tried was a fish taco. It had almost no flavor. The crust on the fish was fried to the point it was crunchier than the tortilla chips. It was like eating hard candy. The pico de gallo barely had any flavor, and most of what I could taste was diced jalapenos. It was so crunchy my teeth hurt at the end of the meal.

A few bites into the taco I was already disappointed. I decided to try the charro beans. The beans at least had flavor, a decent amount of bacon in them, onion and cilantro. Probably the highlight of my meal.

I was hopeful the shrimp enchilada would be better. The very 1st bite I tasted something familiar and it only took a second to realize the cream sauce covering the enchilada and flooding the plate was actually just melted sour cream. The shrimp inside the enchilada had no seasoning and was a total disappointment.

The final item was the white rice. It was just OK. It had cilantro and lime in it and the lime flavor is what stood out, but didnt really add anything to the meal.

My friend commented they weren't impressed with their enchilada plate either. They said the beef fajita taco tasted like roast beef and that nothing on the plate had much flavor.

Both of us arrived hungry, both of use left with to go boxes. We actually debated if we should just left the uneaten food behind. I ate less than half my plate.

I probably wont be back. I was reluctant to order something as common as enchiladas because I eat that at least once a week at one place or another.

I've lived in San Antonio my entire life. Eaten at probably more than a hundred mexican restaurants, and the food that I ordered here was some of the...

Absolutely disgusted with this restaurant at this point. Last night we ordered food for our family for dinner picked it up got home realized not all of our food was included my spouse immediately called to tell them that we're missing our child's meal they proceeded to tell us they were busy they would call us back in a little bit. 2 hours go by my spouse calls back again They said we have it on our pin board we will call you before 9:00 p.m. at this point I'm very frustrated because we went to the restaurant got food to bring home and my child had to eat cereal for dinner because her meal was not included and no one ever called us back. I understand that they were busy but one they required we pay before we pick up our food therefore when they don't give us our food we should get a refund and at this point not only do I want to refund for the food that was not included but I want the tip back that we gave them a 15% that they did not earn by not only for getting our food but by forgetting to return our calls or even apologize for the mistake. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants I'm starting to reconsider. I doubt we'll get a refund for the food we never received I doubt someone will even call us back I also doubt that anyone at the restaurant will even bother to read this review. So after posting this I have found an email address to contact the restaurant. And they replied back to that and gave us a refund. It was kind of like "Oops, sorry we made a mistake." but no actual empathy for what happened. Still extremely upset that my child had eat cereal for dinner when all of us had a nice meal.

Along with this I would like to mention the menudo that we ordered. It was awful It tasted like it came from dirty tap water. You might need to work on...

Definitely don't recommend. I'm a big tipper and my heart broke because I could not bring myself to tip anything above a couple dollars and that was out of pity. We sat outside because it was a beautiful ambiance and our kids could play in their cool playground. We had 2 heater lamps but what seemed like a manager turned one off even after I said it was cold. However he was quick to take extra lamps to another table and turn those on for them. Our waiter Chris was nice but he forgot our drinks and once food came out he never checked on us. My husband had to get up and get our chip bowl refilled for us and when it was time to pay he had to go find Chris so we could get checked out. Couldn't really rate the service cause we didn't really have any. The fajitas were good and so were the chalupas however the chalupas were mostly lettuce. I give props to a homemade tostada for the chalupa and the cheese was great. The rice had no flavor and tasted like it was boiled in water with orange food coloring. Literally no flavor at all. Beans were fine. Cheese Enchiladas were made with gravy instead of enchilada sauce which was pretty gross. The Enchiladas Verdes with chicken were ok but it was clear the salsa verde was from a can and it was the only thing giving them a decent flavor as the chicken was just boiled in water with no flavor just like the rice. I definitely would not recommend. For the parents who go for the park, trust me it'snot worth it. Just take a quick drive around the corner up walnut st and go to Playground drive where your child will go wild with 5 playgrounds and a train...

I’ve been going to Herberts since I was in my teens while I grew up in San Marcos, Tx. I’ve had their chalupas, enchiladas, beef/chicken fajita tacos or plate and Caldo de Res. Which have all been very delicious. My all time favorite use to be their Chicken fried steak plate, but the past few times the gravy has been extremely to salty for me and unable to eat. It also looks as if your getting a large portion, but in reality it’s just over breaded now and it becomes a huge mess on my plate once I remove half the breading/crust. Therefore, this time I tried their street tacos, w/out cilantro and onions while my husband had the same just w/out cilantro. We both agreed they were tasty and would eat them again. My teen daughter had their chicken fajita quesadilla and said they were pretty good. They have good alcoholic drinks. I enjoy the outdoor patio when the weather is nice. They also have kid friendly accommodations outside as well. This location is good for us, as we live about 5 minutes away. Parking is good, except when they have a private party going on in their Party Room on the same property. Since COVID it hasn’t been an issue for obvious reasons. I believe our waiters was name was Memo. He was very proficient. I would recommend this place and suggest a warm Manske Roll for dessert.

Came to Herbert’s after spending a day at Landa Park and hiking Panther Canyon Trail with my kids and two other families. We were looking for a family friendly place to have dinner. Found this restaurant in our search. Perfect because they have a playground while the adults can socialize on the patio. It was pretty windy and cooler outside, but the heaters kept us warm. Service was good. Food was not very good. Bland. The salsa is spicy. Chips are thicker. I prefer a crispier thinner chip. The enchiladas didn’t have much flavor nor did the refried beans. It was average food. Good ambiance. The queso gelled quickly. Want very tasty. The margaritas I was told were REALLY good, but the strawberry blended one was WAY too sweet. I had to return it after two drinks for a house margarita, which was brought out frozen. It was better, but still not the best. Could be the bar tender for the day. Other reviews say they are great. They do have a military discount so that is awesome. The kids had so much fun playing outside. I’d probably go back just for the playground and being able to socialize with friends. I wouldn’t go back for the food unless I tried something different.
