The last time I went, I was having so much trouble with my waitress. When I was ordering my food I had asked her for my sandwich to be well done and her response was “I can ask them”. When I asked what she meant she said that there is a certain way on the menu they have to cook things and that it has to be cooked like that. That’s odd because everywhere else you go they have to cook your food the way you want. So I continued with my order and I asked her to make sure the eggs on the sandwich were over hard and not over easy because I didn’t want them with runny yoke. Her response again was “I’ll ask them but I can’t make any promises”. I asked again what she meant, and her response was the cooks like to cook things their own way and they usually cook however they want to. And might I just say, WRONG RESPONSE! I knew at the point, I should have either asked for a manager or left, but I was out with some friends and I didn’t want to ruin it for them because she was giving me bad service so I blew it off and just left my order at that. The entire time she was taking the order she was more busy flirting with MY HUSBAND and our cousins, which is probably why she kept giving me attitude. When the food was brought out to us, the first thing I checked was the egg and the meat. As expected, the egg was over easy, and the patty was pink on the inside which I specifically told the waitress I did not want to see. So I sent the food back and she asked if I wanted it remade, and I said no I’ll order something else so I order the chicken strip plate. And even that wasn’t cooked right. When she brought the plate out, the chicken was cold and still kind of raw, and the fries were cold like they had been sitting back there for a while. Needless to say, that is the last time I will ever eat here again! I might sit down and have coffee with some friends here (if they can even get that right), but I will never eat...
Read moreWhen rating restaurants, there are 3 criteria. Food, Service and Cleanliness (Google has it as Atmosphere) So if all 3 are as expected, or par for the course, I will rate the restaurant 4 Stars. If one of them is below, the other 2 need to be above to pick up the slack. That is my standard.
Food, was less than expected. It wasn't disgusting, it just seemed far too bland for what we paid for it. It was not worth the money.
Service was better than expected. The young man that served us was attentive and friendly, he did not just take our order but he conversed with us and the 2 year old with us (always wise to interact with the kids)
Atmosphere/Cleanliness 1 star is the lowest you can rate. The facilities are in horrible disrepair. In most restaurants I will look around to see how they clean, like in the booths do they clean the floor in the corners or in the cushions, etc. This place did not need any keen eye for detail to see that they do not care about Cleanliness or keeping the place up to date. Paint peeling, ceiling tiles dingy dirty and disgusting... I made the mistake of going to the restroom. Uh, just don't do that. The Cleanliness, or lack there of, may be why I had such a hard time with the food. If they let the customer see and even sit in filth like this, what does that say about the food safety and food handling procedures they have where the customer can't see. I did not go in the kitchen obviously but I can imagine how dirty and unsanitary it is.
I do not recommend this IHOP, it does not even pass the standard for an IHOP much less a general restaurant. There are other breakfast options in New Braunfels, try...
Read moreI needed to calm down after I ate there and before I posted this. I waited a full day to see if I changed my mind, and I haven't, so here goes. Wow where to begin. The food was passable. The waitress (Debra) seems like a dumpster pile of a human being. My waitress was training someone, a cute girl who couldn't have been more than 19. Probably her first job ever. The waitress who was training her was very rude to her. She should not be training people. I walked past the food prep area, or galley, and heard her say loudly she didn't think the girl would make it as a server, in front of all the other servers and the girl she was training. Trainers are ultimately responsible for their wards. If the girls having problems, that's on the waitress training her. I've been a server before. It's not a hard job. Some of these old crone's who've done it for years think they have a special skill set but they don't and they're just bitter that they never did anything better with their lives. If I were that girl I wouldn't want to return to a hostile environment where people are rude to me and belittle me. I hope she keeps her head up. I hope she succeeds. I seriously hope this IHOP reevaluates it's training regimen. That was just disappointing and heart breaking. If I wanted a heaping portion of depression with my mid range diner food, I'd have just asked Debra about her life story.
If the young woman she was training ever sees this, I think you were doing an awesome job, and I only didn't tip because I know IHOP doesn't allow trainees to claim tips. You I would have tipped in a heartbeat. Keep...
