Previous restaurant owners & operators so we are tough cookies & can always find something that needs improvement in every restaurant we visit....till we came here. Saw the great reviews but didn't realize just how awesome of an experience we would have until we dined here for brunch on Sunday, Nov. 21st.
Brought family of 10 for a birthday celebration & the line outside waiting for them to open was our 1st clue at what a great visit we were about to have. Our table was ready as requested, the decor is beautiful, the server Madison didn't miss a beat (& trust me-we watch for missed service steps or bad timing issues & she was right on the entire visit) & the quality of the food outstanding. Even the food runners were on point & helpful. We all ordered off of the brunch menu & when you see family members passing plates around the table because they want everyone to taste their meal you know it's a good thing. :) My only regret is not having taken pictures to show you the beautiful plate presentations & unique food combinations that simply worked perfectly together. I ordered the 'Mexican Eggs Benedict' & still can't stop talking about it. So delicious & with a great spin on the original recipe. The 'Avocado Toast" was another table favorite-the menu does not describe the delectable dish you are about to receive. My husband's 'Steak & Eggs Tacos' prepared to a perfect medium rare & the flavor to die for. Also had the 'Short Rib Hash' & 'Tampiquena Y Huevos' & all were more than impressed. Even the basics of the chips, salsa & guac were unique & made to perfection---REALLY!
This is a real review. No one paid us to write this or offered us something in return for this review. I shared our experience with the Manager on duty, Fernanda & she was professional & thankful for us taking the time to let her know when things are done right. We will return, many times, & look forward to trying the lunch & dinner items as well. Nice job-you just became our go...
Read moreStaff was very friendly, attentive and helpful in making our selections. We started with the snapper crudo - super delicious, fresh tasting snapper in a tangy broth. We ordered the Pollo mole, mostly out of curiosity - it's mole Blanco, a creamy nutty sauce made from cashews and almonds. The chicken skin was crisped into a chicharron that I could dip into the sauce. Beautiful presentation and flavor - sweet, savory, creamy. Would definitely order again. We also ordered the snapper a la plancha, recommended over the Camerones when we asked our server. Not at all disappointed! It was a hefty portion of perfectly cooked, juicy snapper over a bed of Carolina crispy rice (like a savory fried patty of rice) in a bowl with delicious savory broth. Hubs didn't leave any behind. Our 10yo typically orders off the adult menu, but had more than enough with the brisket taco off the kids menu. It came with two full size flour Tortillas full of brisket, cilantro rice and refried beans. She loved it all and let us try just a little - enough to know why she didn't want to share. We weren't sure it would be enough, so we'd also ordered the kids queso (nothing on the kids menu is over $7, I think) and we did all crush that; it also came with rice and beans, which came home with us. The chocolate tres leches has a slightly crispy, thick layer of ganache and a mango berry compote that had tequila in the name, but not the flavor. The compote was fresh, mango was firm and not slimy or mushy like I've come to expect, but overall a perfect accompaniment to the dark, rich chocolate cake. Ultimately, I also had a glass of sangria. Sangria can be tricky - either too sweet or tart, but this was just right. If you're looking for sticky sweet - look elsewhere. We live in SA but will find reasons to take the short trip to NB...
Read moreFirst time here, came for Sunday lunch. First off, you Tex-Mex fans, if you come here thinking you are entering a typical “Mexican” food place, you will be disappointed. This is a higher end, traditional and/or gourmet Mexican fare restaurant. And having travelled multiple times to Mexico, I can verify that they do actually eat fish aplenty and do not have refried beans and rice with every meal. The offerings at this place are out of the ordinary, as are the seasonings used. It isn't for everyone, especially the reviewers whose expansive and diverse dining experiences venture as far as San Antonio. There is less emphasis here on the super-spicy, more on subtle flavors and a wide variety of creative dishes. I will agree with many reviewers who found the chips excellent but the salsa very bland--add a poblano or jalapeno, owners! We enjoyed barbacoa tacos, carnitas quesadillas, and pollo enchiladas. Of the three, the enchiladas that I selected were most similar to typical, Tex-Mex chicken enchiladas. However, the enchiladas’ flavor was more subtle and the green sauce leaned almost to sweet. Served over a bed of rice, I did not regret my choice. Barbacoa tacos came on blue corn tortillas and were topped with grilled and pickled onions and were a big hit with my wife. My son, a teenager, is not what I would describe as picky, but he can definitely favor the familiar. Even so, he devoured his quesadillas. Presentation was very nice and the service really outstanding. Look, I am a HUGE Tex-Mex fan, and this is not Tex-Mex. However, I would highly recommend this restaurant for folks wanting a nice meal, great atmosphere, and a break from the ordinary masses of Mexican restaurants.
Update--if you haven't had the wagyu steak fajitas, your life...
