The Iron Horse Grill is located on old 81 in New Braunfels, next to the Wash Tube car wash. The building is old. Which gives the restaurant a homely feel. Admittedly, due to the bar and the oldest of the building, it does have an odor. It's not off-putting enough to make you not want to eat there. But you definitely notice it when you walk in. You order your food at the front desk, then sit anywhere and they bring you the food. All orders are done separately, meaning you order a burger and then if you want fries, you order fries. Same thing with the drink. The outdoor area here is heavenly. The restaurant itself is surrounded by big buildings and pavement. But when sitting out back it's like being in your own secluded forested area. There is a small playground for kids there and a place where they would do live music. You refill your own drinks and besides the workers bringing you the food there is no normal interaction between you and the workers unlike a server-based restaurant. Food was 8/10 ; Staff wad a 7/10. You don't really interact with them too much but they did answer questions we had about the menu ; Seeting was a 10/10 for the patio/outside area. 7/10 for inside. They do have TVs over the bar. Watching sports or news. I would recommend the Iron Horse Grill to anybody looking for a cozy place to eat in the middle of New Braunfels.

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while. Lots of options on the menu and the prices looked reasonable. I decided to get a cheeseburger and a bowl of chili. The cheeseburger was $10, but I ordered the senior cheeseburger instead because it was only $9. You never know what you're gonna get with chili, so I asked for a sample, but they don't do that so I ordered a bowl anyway. When the food arrived, the hamburger looked like the junior burger you would see at a fast food burger chain. It was tasty, but had I known it would be kid sized, I would have paid the extra dollar. I mean, $9 for a 4 oz burger? The chili had a layer of grease floating on top of it when it arrived. It came with onions and cheese, which wasn't on the menu, I hadn't asked for it, and didnt want it, so I spooned as much of the onions and grease out as I could (see photo). It tasted good, but I couldn't eat much before I could feel that greasy chili settling in my stomach. The service was good, but with a drink my bill was $21. For a kids burger and the greasiest chili I have ever eaten. And I've eaten a lot of chili.

1ST off ... Food is delicious 😋 When you first see it looks like a hole in the wall place, rustic old country style, I don't care much about the inside of this place, definitely could use a make over. But the outside area looks much better, comfy/cozy outback feel, Plenty of seating, a few Big TVs to watch your favorite sports. A little stage for performers to play. ( Music 🎶 ) I've only had the burger and chips and queso, 100% recommended 👌 it's huge and delicious plus there homemade fries omg must have.. I did get a Philly cheese steak sub togo for my dad with the grilled onions and peppers he said it was really good and he would order it again.. My only bad comment would be they charge you extra for everything, extra ranch, mayo, extra toppings on things... I know alot of other places don't charge for ranch or mayo? I think if you can bring me a squeeze bottle of Ketchup there should be a squeeze bottle of mayo lol.. and if I'm going to pay extra for ranch it better be a bowl of ranch not this tiny little sample lol

Our anniversary dinner at Iron Horse was a truly disappointing experience. While we understood they were understaffed and our waitress was clearly overwhelmed managing a large party, the experience went downhill quickly. My husband ordered the chicken fried chicken, but when our food arrived, the waitress mistakenly called it chicken fried steak and then joked that they all looked the same to her. We corrected her, but things got worse when my grilled chicken finally arrived, and my husband cut into his "chicken fried chicken" to find it was indeed chicken fried steak.

We tried to get our waitress's attention, but she had already left the room, and we weren't checked on for what felt like an eternity. My husband was hungry, so he reluctantly ate the incorrect dish rather than wait an indefinite amount of time for the right order. When our waitress finally returned, we brought up the mistake. She claimed she had even double-checked our order and went to speak with the manager about it.

To our dismay, the waitress returned to inform us that the manager refused to do anything because we hadn't said something immediately. Not only did the manager not bother to speak with us directly, but they also penalized us for their kitchen's error and the slow service that prevented us from addressing it sooner. While the food itself was okay, the dismissive attitude of the management and the significant error with our order completely soured our special occasion. We still tipped our hardworking waitress, as the fault clearly wasn't hers, but we definitely won't be returning to Iron Horse. It's a shame the manager's poor handling of the situation overshadowed what could have been a pleasant celebration...

After being seated by the server, who happened to be the manager, I was told, I waited ten minutes for an ice tea. Then after waiting a good bit of time, my order was finally taken, all by the same blonde woman who was my server/manager. The food took over 25 minutes to be brought out. During that time, my iced tea needed to be refilled, and my server was no where to be found. I finally saw her standing behind the bar, texting on her phone. I couldn’t get her attention. The other two servers were standing near the cash register, talking, smiling, and showing each other their phones, at no time did any employee ever even look at the five tables of customers. My food finally arrived, the bacon cheeseburger was horribly overcooked, my fries were not even warm and I couldn’t even get the attention of my server once again. My server/manager finally came by, I explained the issue with my food, she said she was busy contacting the owner to tell him what drinks they were out of and would not address the issue with my lunch, which I had waited for 45 minutes at this point, only to be served absolute crap. Since she would not resolve the problem, I left hungry and it will be close to never when I return here. I’ve eaten here for more than ten years, since the latest owner has taken over the quality of the food has fluctuated due to the bad service of his Gen Z staff. They are completely clueless and will cost this man his business because they are more interested in their phones and socializing with other staff members, getting hot, fresh food to their customers isn’t even a thought here. Stay away from Iron Horse. The huge cost of eating here isn’t...

Our first visit and the burgers are absolutely AWESOME & have amazing flavor. The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly but the regular fries were soggy & seemed greasy but also as if they’d been under a heat lamp. The building & decor is really cute & unique, they have Al fresco dining & outdoor entertainment, however, there were instances where improvements can be made: it took about 20-30 minutes to receive our order, despite the fact that they weren’t busy at all, plus, our server was not the best. She couldn’t confidently answer questions about certain items, she never gave us updates on our order, didn’t check on us after we received our order to make sure everything was correct & cooked to our expectations. She literally only checked on us once before getting our order & once after we’d finished. She didn’t ask if we needed refills or extra napkins. When we got the bill, we were shocked that our total was over $50 for 2 burgers & fries. She didn’t even go over our order before asking for payment to make sure it was correct. I asked for a receipt & we found she actually added a $10 appetizer which we never ordered. It was corrected but she had an attitude & a snarky, passive aggressive demeanor regarding her mistake, there was no need for a snarky attitude. To top it off, a 20% tip was added, we didn’t add a 20% tip. We know mistakes happen but if we visit again, we’ll be sure to go over the order before payment...
