K & G Corner Deli — Restaurant in New Haven

This place deserves 0 stars. My sandwich was okay I have no complaints there. My issue is with their prices and the woman’s easy ability to lie. I ordered a sandwich. I had cash and debit on hand she told me she would prefer cash instead of debit. 😒 I said okay. Threw me off a little bit but okay. After I paid for my sandwich I came back in and grabbed a juice and a bag of chips. This time she couldn’t request how she wanted payment because at this point all I had was my card. I gave her the last bit of cash I had on me for the sandwich. She tells me my total is $5.00 for a juice and bag of chips. I said okay paid for my items and asked her how much was each item she says the chips was $2.15 and the juice was $2.50. I’m not a math pro but I do know that doesn’t add up to $5.00. So I asked how did we get a total of $5.00. Each item would have to had been $2.50 a piece. At this time she is now acting like she so busy trying to take the next customers order. I laughed and I left. Upon coming out I see to teenage girls walk on the opposite side of the street. I asked them to do me a favor go in this same establishment and purchase the same exact chips that I purchased. I just wanted to see if the price was going to be the same. I gave the girls my card and told them to get whatever they wanted In compensation for helping me out but to pay for the chips separately. Guess what she charged these young black girls $3.50 for the same bag of chips she had just charged me $2.50 for. If she was paying attention instead of over charging people she would have noticed it was the same debit card that was just used not even 5 minutes prior. I thanked the young ladies for helping me out and we laughed for a while about the price hike. One of the young ladies stated maybe she raised the price by a $1.00 because it was extra air in the potatoe chip bag. 😂😂😂 nothing like good humor. I don’t think these establishments understand when you take from people you will lose 10x more in the long run. It will be more than what you took from them. Welp it’s safe for me to say I won’t. Be returning back here. I wish them well on all of their future endeavors. This was just bad business for me. But please pay attention people how you get charged at these establishments. They out here just making up prices as they go based off...

Cleanliness, friendly customer service, and fair prices are most definitely NOT on the menu here.

Place is a blight on the neighborhood as it seems to attract a questionable clientele that litters and produces a constant supply of cigarette smoke around the entrance.

Owners are seemingly hard working yet at times inexplicably hostile and extremely greedy and combative towards even loyal long time customers.

You get the sense that nothing is out of bounds if it results in more revenue.

According to the paper things were so bad the place even got busted in recent memory for selling cancer sticks to kids.

Food quality and pricing is wildly inconsistent.

If you still want to go just look for the piles of open rotting garbage in front and have your wallet open and your mouth and nose closed and you should be fine.

I tried to have an order delivered to my office address today and was told we were too far away so the order would have to be over $25 for delivery (their requirement for deliveries over 1 mile). I told them we are 1.1 miles away and was told (quite rudely) that is still over 1 mile and so the requirement stands (even though they have delivered to my office many times in the past). I then went on their website which connected me to Doordash for online orders for delivery and it asked for the delivery address to confirm it could be delivered and delivery was approved and showed as 0.9 miles away. The refusal to deliver a $16 order because we were "too far away" at 1.1 miles (or 0.9 miles according to the delivery service) just cost them a bunch of business since I stop in at least once a week to pick up breakfast and my husband's entire department orders from them often.
