While vacationing in the area with three generations of our family I googled “vintage stores” and found Noir Vintage and Company! I grew up thrifting, and learned to sew my own clothes from my Mum and her mother, my Nana. If I wanted to dress in a particular style I had to thrift score my outfit or sew it.
When we walked into Noir we knew we were in for an experience! The shop is gorgeous! The owner and creative force, Evelyn Massey, has carefully curated a stunningly beautiful collection of truly vintage pieces from many eras. We felt like we opened the door and stepped back in time to a Hollywood studio dressing room! Noir’s fixtures are beautifully timely pieces selected and displayed with care. The artwork, the music playing, and the welcoming vibe combine to create a sublime experience. There were pieces I recognize from my everyday wear during my childhood and teen years! I’m surprised to note how much value these pieces have held! My daughter wears some of my clothes from the 70s when I was in middle school! She was thrilled to see a few very similar pieces at Noir! There are clothes for babies through adults! The housewares and vinyl collection are so cool! Talking with Evelyn Massey was such a joy! My mother, sister, and daughter were so happy to have had the experience. I had to step away to take a call and missed out. We will definitely be back! Noir Vintage and Company is a destination experience for Vintage Connoisseurs! New Haven is blessed to have Evelyn and Noir! All three generations of women in our family loved Noir! Thank you, Evelyn, for sharing your...

However this time after coming in again, I was followed outside to my car after leaving and was photographed because I was being accused of stealing? One of the workers there was extremely rude, giving me awful looks and accusing me of stealing with absolutely no proof whatsoever. The only proof was saying the owner “knows her inventory” Even the owner had came back outside and apologized for the confusion but the rude lady who had taken pictures of me and my car had nothing to say. Extremely unprofessional and I am very offended. Will not...
Read moreI came here today for the first time and absolutely loved it. As soon as I walked in to the sounds of "Be My Husband" by Nina Simone, the owner Evelyn warmly greeted me and told me a little about the store.
There was an amazing selection of curated vintage clothing and decor, as well as a phenomenal vinyl collection. The store was colorful, warm and inviting and Evelyn and her assistant were so kind and helpful.
Noir Vintage is a great addition to New Haven. In a city dominated by Yale and white business owners, it's wonderful to see a small business owned by a local woman of color.
I can't wait to come back and...
