I found out that Trinity Bar is the American Outlaws (us mens soccer supporters group) home bar for New Haven. I confirmed this on Trinity's website. We arrived Saturday afternoon for a game. It's a nice/typical take on an Irish pub with plenty of soccer decor, so we were glad we found it. The game being a friendly, didn't bring out much of a crowd. There were maybe 12-14 fans there to watch the game scattered across the inside watching various TV's. There were about 10 others in the bar that didn't seem to be there for any game, but to drink and eat. The game starts and there is no volume. I asked our server if she could have the sound on for the game and she said they usually didn't do that. Now typically I'd just let it be, but being at a "sports bar" and listening to incessant 90's soft pop (it was a very strange vibe) drove me to ask someone else if they could turn on the game sound and this time I was told they would try, but they said it's kind of complicated. Nothing changed. I finally asked a third person behind the bar and he flat out said "no, it's a music bar". We were clearly not the only group there to watch the game in bar that was not busy at all on Saturday afternoon. The staff didn't care. They did however, manage to turn that awful music off to listen to a two minute horse race, but then went right back to the music after the race.
If you advertise yourself as a soccer bar and have customers on hand to watch, maybe cater to them.
We had apps, beer, and cocktails which were ok (they did pour a nice black/tan). I wouldn't recommend you go out of your way to stop here and definitely caution you to avoid making a trip here to catch a game. You'd be hard pressed to find...
Read moreFirst and foremost: TERRIBLE SERVICE. Didn't even acknowledge my husband and I when we sat at the bar. 5 min later, a group of people came in and the guy behind the bar was very jovial and engaged and made sure they were served. It was another 5 minutes before he even looked at us, and then his tone was somewhat bothered. We didn't feel welcome there, AT ALL.
Secondly, we were there to hopefully watch an EPL soccer match (Man City vs Leicester), but apparently because we weren't one of the 20 Aresnal fans in there, they couldn't be bothered to accommodate the other 8 of us who wanted to watch a different match. Instead of trying, they just kept giving lame excuses on why it MIGHT not be possible, how they had to do this and that before they could check, etc. Really? We're paying customers and you didn't even want to make the attempt?
Not a good look and I certainly won't be going back there again....
Read moreCame here on a Wednesday planning to just sit and have dinner to get out of the heat. Nothing on the website that as a restaurant, it’s 21+ only (since most restaurants are not). Totally understand asking for ID but the rent a cop at the door in the fake bullet proof vest was nasty and unprofessional when I didn’t have mine (I’m 37, don’t live here, and forgot it at home- not his fault I forgot it but an honest mistake and I don’t look under 21- no need to treat me like trash). I made no attempt to get in after he said no and just asked if he knew anywhere else to grab dinner and he started shouting at me. As a supposedly friendly Irish place (reason I decided to come here) totally unacceptable. Given that this is listed as a bar AND RESTAURANT it should have been made clear on the website that ID is required for entry, not just to order drinks. Definitely not a slice of the Ireland I...
