0 stars should be an option for google reviews. I dined at Kumo New Haven over the weekend for a friend’s birthday and you couldn’t pay me to go back. Upon arriving, the hostess gave us our menus and said “hurry up and make your selection, it is a Saturday night we are very busy”. We didn’t even have time to look through the menu. Being rushed from the start was the first strike. Secondly, my fiancé ordered a glass of their plum wine on their list of specials and it tasted old and fermented, when she asked the waiter if this wine could be replaced with another choice, the waiter said “yes I can get you something else but you still have to pay for this one”. A glass of wine that has probably sat out opened for a period of time, the customer MUST pay for? Strike 2. Our hibachi chef was also very lackluster. He cooked our food on a high heat so it could cook faster, didn’t clean the grill after, served us and moved on to the next table where he did tricks, sang to the table and also told jokes. It was very noticeable that there was a difference of effort. The third and final strike came about 15 minutes into us eating. The server came over 4 times within 15 minutes asking us if we were finished and if we wanted to go boxes. Nobody even made a dent into their meals. It was very uncomfortable. And a bonus strike came when it was time for the server to collect the bill. We split the bill amongst the 7 person party, the appropriate amount of cash was given as well as debit cards to place payments on. The server shouted loud enough for the entire restaurant to look over at us “NO THIS ISNT RIGHT, YOU HAVE TO PAY FULL BILL”. As if we were trying to short change the establishment. We went over the numbers with the waiter over 7x, showing her that we had the correct amount and in silence she apologized. This was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Being the only table with patrons of color, I couldn’t help but feel neglected and ostracized. For the food to be overcooked and have minimal flavor, the service matched this 0/10 effort. Kumo New Haven should be shut down and reopened into an establishment that wants to put maximum effort into cooking great dishes and treating any and all PAYING customers equally. I wouldn’t eat at Kumo New Haven again if I...
Read moreWent to the Kumo on Elm Street . The food was ok . The service was NOT good. First we asked if myself and one other person could sit at the Hibachi table. They said yes . However we was there 5 mins before the waiter came rushing us to order, I said sir we just sat down can you give us some to look at the menu. He came back 2 mins again stalking us to order. When we gave him our order he told us we had to move if we both wasn't ordering Hibachi. Only 1 of us wanted Hibachi, so now we had to get up and move to the back. None of this was explained before being situated at the Hibachi table. We moved to the back, after receiving our food , it was as if he was watching us eat and wanted to rush us out . His energy was very off putting and not a service one would appreciate when wanting to dine out . After we was done and got the check. I was charged a 18% service charge for two people which I actually thought was the gratuity charge. I thought wow he already just added his gratuity for lackluster service then suggested i gave more ?! No sir ... I did a little research after I left and discovered this restaurant charges, 7.5 % taxes and adds an 18% service charge for 2 people. This should be posted in plan english in clear view for customers to be aware of these charges. Therefore, i put you already added the gratuity on the receipt. Not sure if this is a new thing there but i was blind sided since this is the first time i had this charge placed on a receipt for 2 people sitting a regular table. I will not be eating there all these extra charges on top of gratuity is way to much this is not a 5 star restaurant . Even though our waiters service was not good, I would've still left a gratuity if I was aware that the 18% he already was for his lackluster service. I concluded management is making customers pay their works off the top in addition to gratuity! Times are hard and eating out is a treat , these charges should be clear had this been clarified we would have not eaten there especially after been rushed to order and eat. They need a customer relations course so they could not be so rude to customers patrons trying to support...
Read moreWORM FOUND IN FOOD 🤢 .I recently just dined there with my girlfriend and we both ordered the seafood soup. We’ve ordered this dish before so we knew that the dish was going to be exceptional. Once I started digging in, my girlfriend noticed a small object floating inside of my bowl. Once we took the object out, we realize it was a WORM!So what does a customer do once they see something in their food that they didn’t order, considering it’s an insect? The customer shows the waiter what they found in the dish; which was done by me. The Waiter then goes up to the manager to let her know what is going on. The manager sees what’s going on and does absolutely NOTHING but tells us the WORM is in there because of the vegetables (yea we know) still not a good reason for why I see a WORM floating in my dish!!! She then gives us our bill and does NOTHING to help accommodate our situation at hand. I saw the waitress actually talking to the manager about the bill. I don’t speak Japanese but it looked like she was talking about the bill and the manager DID NOT CARE and took the money and ran. So for their NEGLECT in customer service, they should be REPRIMANDED and made example for future use. Both of our meals were barely touch because we were both turned off seeing a WORM floating in my bowl. If the WORM wasn’t ordered then wouldn’t the logical thing to do at your place of business is to apologize and refund the customer. All I got was an explanation why it’s in there and to make sure I pay my bill....
