Tonight a group of queer bipoc folks came into three sheets at 10:30, immediately upon entering we noticed that the bartender seemed angry with us and that their energy was incredibly hostile, i double checked closing time listed on google which was 1am to make sure we were not entering a bar close to closing, which i would have forgiven. We asked if we can order food and they told us that the kitchen had closed at 10:00, we then asked if we could order food from somewhere else and they responded yes they dont care as long as you eat on the other side of the fence as it was a CT state law that no outside food could be eaten. We ordered food and ate on the other side of the fence, we placed our empty food down on the table and the bartender stormed out and grabbed the empty bag off the table yelling at our group stating that "it is a ct law that their cant be any food at all on tables" i asked them what the law was as I am also a CT bar owner to which they stated "well it's policy not law" I apologized and said that we didn't know the policy since it wasnt accurately given to us, i told them i would never leave the food waste on the table (which was their excuse for their obtuse behavior was that "previous customers" had been unruly and left waste). Again as a bartender and owner this wasn't the case, I was having my first drink after working an event and noticed no other customers were not being policed in the way that a table of black folks were being policed. I just moved to New Haven and have been excited to go to three sheets, but after this experience of being immediately profiled as a group of black visibly queer folks i dont feel safe at this establishment. The hostility was so quick and we were policed the entire time we all had our 1 drink after working a long day. Our group was clearly attempting to follow the policy that was given to us by deliberately eating our food on the other side of the fence which is what the bartender asked us to do. I'm sure if you review video footage you can see that we took our food away from the table like was asked and were still treated as people intentionally breaking the rules by someone who saw us and judged as by the color of our skin. I do not believe that this biased was intentional but an unfortunate part of the cycle of racist behavior by service workers towards non white patrons. I hope in the future three sheets can hire someone to do anti racist work so that other black patrons don't have to suffer the same humiliation that we...
Read moreI had ordered a Smash 🍔 with Jalapeños it wasn't seasoned at all and buns wasn't Toasted made bread soggy all messy . I also asked for simple Drinks like Piña colada and coquito and a Waitress chubby thick white lady I'm sorry I don't know her name asked me what type of drinks are those and I told her they were Hispanic puerto rican drinks she said there not Puerto Rican so that's why she don't know what those drinks where and they didn't have like Condense milk that's part of one of the Ingredients in drinks it's understanding no problem but what she said made me uncomfortable maybe the way she said it what made me uncomfortable. I've been to other white restaurant bars in new haven that know what a Piña colada and Coquito drinks are even if they didn't have some of the stuff that's in the drinks they would Substitute certain ingredients or make a Similar drink she was a bit lazy about it I'm very sad and 😞 Disappointed because I've been wanting to come to this place since 😔 I just moved to new haven ct and I've been here that one time it was a different time and Experience, this was the 2nd time, it was to show my hubby how good food was but the food was soggy and messy And not even season at all I eat half 😒 🙄 😔 couldn't eat the rest or take it home . It was $40 wow I didn't mind the price but The food was not Quality or up to par I don't know what happened from 2 months ago to now there was a different Waitress I don't remember her name but she was super nice and she made me a drink with no problems 😊 I do remember she'd told me she worked at a different bar Restaurant that's very popular in new haven , any ways back to today . I'm what that thick white lady Waitress said to me was wired and uncomfortable if you don't know what something is it's understandable but to say things like I'm not Puerto rican I don't know what drinks they where I told her the most humble way you don't have to be Puerto Rican or Hispanic to know what drinks those are and I smiled I was so uncomfortable . If your Hispanic or Latino don't even bother asking this women for any Hispanic drinks you will feel super out of place and...
Read moreThree Sheets scratches that little dive bar itch, where I don't actually wanted to be surrounded by sullen binge drinkers, but I don't want hipster trappings and salvaged wood on the walls either. Dark and cold, but not dingy, this bar is perfect for sloppy conversations, a bit of pool, and multiple rounds of pickles prepared in different ways. Beer prices are pretty standard, and the food is on the more expensive side, but you get what you pay for. The regular cheeseburger was exquisitely cooked and flavorful, and the pickled fries in the side were delicious, but quite strong for as many as they give you. The fried pickles (served as chopped spears) are my second favorite in New Haven, and the pickle spear served with my burger rounded out the acidic trinity. The folks working behind the beer and in the kitchen were extra nice too, tracking us as we moved to different seats twice. Finally, in spite of its rugged look, they have a lot of good looking vegan and vegetarian options with actual care put into the recipe, and not a token Veggie Pattie to quiet vegans who stumble into the bar...
