I would give a zero star if that was possible for the most horrific and awful experience of my life! The woman (who later said that she was the Manager) was extremely rude and literally told me “I want you to leave my cafe right now and never return back”. And she kept repeating that until I left that place. My boyfriend and I are regular customers at Maison Mathis and being a regular customer (and as a human), you would expect some respect from the staff and the owner but that is completely lacking at this place. My friend (who was visiting New Haven for the first time) and I went to Maison Mathis for breakfast this morning at 10 am. There were only 2 other customers when we placed the order so the place wasn’t even busy. However, we had to wait for around 40 mins for my friend’s plain waffles with fruits while my food was sitting on the table and getting cold. Since my friend had to catch the train, she went in to check if her food was ready. But this lady was extremely rude to her and simply said that her food will be out in 2-3 mins. When that didn’t happen for another 10 mins, I went inside and she said the same thing to me, again extremely rude, without any apologies! Finally, my friend gets her waffles after another 5 mins (about 40 mins later in total). So after my friend left, I went inside to leave a feedback. I asked for a feedback form or the Manager and this same lady comes out and says that she is the Manager. I very politely told her that my friend and I had a really bad customer experience. We were waiting for her waffles for more than 30 mins and that the staff was really rude. Normally, at any decent place, staff or the Manager would apologize when they receive a feedback like that, however, she started yelling at me, saying that she was not rude, my friend and I were rude. And that it wasn’t even 30 mins. I can leave all the feedback that I want and I can’t threaten her by saying that I was going to leave a review online. And ultimately, she told me that she wanted me to leave her restaurant and that she didn’t want me to come back. I was shocked to hear a “Manager” saying something like that to a customer. I can’t imagine someone running a business and telling their customers to not to return back. I came back home all traumatized, ready to submit a review online, and was shocked to see that there were so many reviews with a similar customer experience. So I won’t even say that probably, the lady was having a bad day! It was an awful awful experience and clearly, me or my friends will ever go back to this place again. No one deserves to be treated like that! Instead of a good experience, one would come back...
Read moreNever again! First and last time Looking forward to a laid-back morning we unfortunately end up at this dump. Long wait, rude staff, mediocre food. A staff person (not waitress, they don’t have any) came to our table accused us of lying about a food item and said we have to pay for it, and stood there waiting to get payment. The management/ owner response to other reviews here 🚩🚩🚩is pretty much what you get in person.
Here’s what happened: Me and my husband order our food (waffle, omelette, tofu, scramble, oatmeal, and two lattes), the cashier says there’s an up charge for customizing/adding (I assume its the fruit and nondairy milk). We say that’s fine and find a table. Our order starts arriving but after a few minutes of waiting we ask a staff person to check if the waffle we ordered was coming. This person doesn’t come back and at this point we’re almost done eating. My husband goes up to the register to ask about the waffle. The plates have been cleared from the table and we’re slowly, sipping our lattes waiting for this waffle and still no waffle. When the waffle finally arrives, the person that brings it over says something about ordering 2, and my husband responds with “I guess”. The cashier comes over with a receipt and starts saying we got 2 waffles but only ordered one and we need to pay for it because the person that brought it over asked us if we ordered and that we said yes. We tell her we didn’t really know what he said when he came over, but we’ll pay. Then she continues to emphasize we only ordered one and we have to pay for the other one. And then she just stands there as if we’re not allowed to continue our conversation until we pay for this waffle. So I say we’ll pay when we’re done. When we go up to the register to pay, I tell her to let her manager know that their lack of communication and organization should not affect customers. And then she repeats “he asked you if you order two waffles and you said yes.” I reminded her we had to ask about our order multiple times. The manager/owner comes over and says did you enjoy your meal? 🥴 no, I didn’t enjoy being harassed by the staff while I’m eating being accused of lying and attempting to steal after having to wait so long for the food to arrive. Also, they ask for a tip when you pay for your order. This is why tips come at the end of the service not before you even sit down.
You can tell how rude management is by their response to any negative...
Read moreThe woman at the front counter, Marika is the rudest woman I have ever met and is making them loose MANY customers.
I went to Maison B Cafe a week ago while my son was in critical care in the hospital nearby. The first time was pleasant and I enjoyed the avocado crunch roll and so I decided I’d recommend it to my sister and go back the following week to get a small break from the hospital. I ordered the same thing, the avocado crispy roll. When I received it it didn’t have avocado, tomato, or aoli, as it did last time and as is advertised on the menu. I asked if it could be fixed because it only had egg and cheese on it. The woman at the desk, Marika, proceeded to be extremely rude and yell at me saying that’s not what I ordered and I would have to pay more money to have that and so I agreed to pay $5 more, despite that being exactly what I ordered. Then she continues to proceed to yell at me, the customer, saying that’s not what I ordered and my sister was right there and also knew in fact that was what I ordered. I tried to avoid engaging in a childish back and forth with her but she proceeded to yell at me so I finally told her that my son is on life support and I know that this what I ordered because the only other time I’ve left the hospital I came here and ordered the same there as they don’t even have menus available! She just said “I don’t care”. Eventually she brought me the same sandwich I had and just threw some guacamole on it. Despite me paying an additional $5 for an up charge for this sandwich it still didn’t contain the correct ingredients.
Bottom line, in the half hour I had away from the hospital with my son, I was expecting a pleasant experience like I had the first time but it was in fact the WORST experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant!! I could care less about the sandwich. At the end of the day, Marika, the woman you order from could not be more rude to the customers and literally attacked me by yelling at me continually when I only asked to have ingredients added to my sandwich because they had made a mistake on my order. It’s clear from these reviews many people have had the same negative experience with this woman and I will NOT be back again and have told all of the staff at Yale who initially referred me to this place and they also will NOT be back again. I suggest the management work on training a little thing called customer service to this...
