Ok, so Google reviews let's you choose only one of these, but I dined in and had take out. I really like the food. When it was first established, it was the place to be, especially when it came to drinks and chips with your choice of dip. The food was also good, but it seems like they're pinching everything. The price of food doesn't match the quantity and the quality is ok. The ambiance feels laid back, but the employees seem aggravated. It's not like they openingly show you. It's more of an empathic thing for me, and this is everyone I've been to here in New Orleans. I'll have to check the other one out on my way to Slidell. However, if you're looking for a quick evening, get together with friends or colleagues after work or on the weekends, this is a good place to choose. A drink and some food will set you back about $16 to $30. You can enjoy some TV and the bar and sit inside or outside. Felipe's on Carrollton has more place to sit inside or outside and is connected to an ice cream place, but there's only about two TV's which are in the small bar area. Also, I wouldn't get together here with family and small children, but do you by all means the little ones will enjoy the food especially if they have a healthy appetite, but just make sure they're well behaved. The Felipe's on Decatur has more of a party feel but has 4 TV's in their bar area that's a little bigger than Carrollton Felipe's bar. The Felipe's uptown has more of a get your stuff and dip feel because it's more of a smaller place and bar. I apologize for the long tangent, but my opinion is my...
Read moreFelipe’s is unfortunately not what it used it be 10 years ago. Also why has ethnic demographic changed from mexican-employed to black-employed? Yes black people from New Orleans can cook, but if they don’t understand the first thing about mexican food culture, it loses its authenticity, and I think that’s one thing that was lost here. Also there was a man working the food counter and he shouldn’t be at the counter if he can’t speak up especially if there is a glass barrier between us. For a split second he looked at me with irritation in his face for asking him to repeat himself multiple times because I’m 5’0 tall and I can’t hear him over the glass esp if he’s talking low, I honestly didn’t even want him touching my food after that. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla and it wasn’t anything like how I remembered when the mexicans was working there. The shrimp wasn’t peeled all the way and I can taste that they were frozen shrimp, not local gulf shrimp which there is no excuse for being that we are a local seafood city; I can taste the shell underneath the fried breading on the shrimp which was weird. Overall, weird exchange, and vibes in almost every felipe’s that’s been colonized by non-hispanic folk. This brought felipe’s down major. Integrity and quality is gone in exchange for cheap/fast employment. this has went from being one of my favorite places to least favorite places to eat; might as well go to izzo’s...
Read moreIt’s not a bad experience overall, but the food has definitely slipped over the years unfortunately. I don’t hate the food, not bad sometimes, just comparatively to when I used to live in Nola, it doesn’t seem the same. I get the nachos a majority of the time and they used to be very delicious, but when I went back and got the nachos maybe a few months ago, it just tasted a lot more dull and less exciting. Not sure if something big changed, other than the obvious stuff like covid and inflation and junk, but it’s not the same. Can’t speak about the bar really because I’ve only gotten a few margaritas before, but I haven’t had a bad experience at the bar and the bartenders are pretty cool. Just throwing in my two cents.
P.S. After reflection, I have decided to increase the review a bit. Things have been rough lately, time have definitely changed, and things aren’t easy for anyone most of the times. I still feel the food isn’t the same sometimes, but I guess that it cant be expected to remain exactly as the first or second impression in one’s mind. Unfortunately, it is what it is. I wouldn’t avoid eating here by any means, I just don’t get the chance to do so very often anymore. I get that reviews hold a lot of weight, probably more than they should sometimes, so it would be remiss of me to give a review hastily and...
