On a rainy afternoon in New Smyrna Beach, I found myself walking with my son, headed toward another coffee shop. But something unexpected stopped me, I had paused to take a picture of this vintage looking old photo prop when I noticed a group of girls sitting nearby looking completely relaxed, enjoying their scenery.
I wandered over, curious. What I stumbled into was more than a coffee shop, it was one of those rare “third spaces” that feels like a little slice of someone’s porch, with the charm of something lived-in, and welcoming. The rain didn’t matter. The patio had enough coverage to stay dry and cozy, and it only added to the comforting ambiance.
The space felt homey. Wooden tables, gently weathered and full of character, swing chairs suspended from ropes, and a rustic, unfussy vibe that made it easy to settle in. The owner even mentioned that his own son had left some toys there which, as a mom, felt like the warmest touch. My son dove right into play with a set of oversized Jenga tiles and a few other scattered treasures, giving me a rare moment to sip espresso and simply enjoy the rain.
Speaking of espresso.. it was amazing. Rich, strong, and crafted with care. I loved my latte & espresso martini! The lemon cookies are also delicious, I want one right now!
Places like this are hard to find. For locals and wanderers alike. If you’re ever caught in a Florida downpour and happen upon this little gem, don’t keep walking. You’ll be...
Read moreBeautiful place for morning coffee and great atmosphere. I come to New Smyrna almost every day riding my scooter. Luma became my spot almost from day one when I discovered that they serve coffee roasted at nearby Botanical House. Rosie is my favorite roast. Very mild and easy to drink. So, why only three stars? Lately, over 5-7 day period my favorite Rosie has changed. It became very acidic and bitter and no matter how much sugar or cream you put in the taste remains. First I thought maybe the person behind the counter put too much coffee when preparing to brew ( every day they have a new person going through training) Maybe it was sitting in the dispenser for too long. Maybe they brewed wrong roast…… I spoke about that with the barista today. She was apologetic and assured me that the brew today is Rosie and recently brewed so I ordered small cup. Unfortunately it was close to horrible, supper acidic and bitter. My guess is that something has changed in the roasting process at Botanical House. Hope the owners find...
Read moreOrdered the BLT add egg sub toast for plain bagel. Did not receive the avocado that came with the sandwich nor the bagel. The employees were either super hungover or high. The cashier had a giant hickey on his neck. He rang me up for two coffees despite only ordering one. I didn’t realize until they handed it to me. They were out of lids and when asked to get more, he completely forgot. They were writing food orders on plastic cups instead of typing it in the computer. My iced tea tastes like water and had no ice. Major miscommunication between the barista and cashier as she had no idea what orders were being placed. It seems like everyone in front and behind us got their orders wrong. Line was super long and insanely slow. Vibes are good but not worth the price or the wait. Someone ended up handing out old Christmas cookies to try to appease customers. Not sure what is...
