Today my mom and daughter wandered in for lunch after sightseeing lower Manhattan. The Asian woman who worked there was amazingly nasty to us. She placed the menus on the table and said "you want drink?". She came back and said "what you want?". My daughter ordered a cup of tea which was cold. My daughter asked for another cup of tea and she brought another cold cup of tea. We ordered the Lunch special- me with three rolls and a soup and my mom 2 rolls and a salad. We waited about 15 minutes before they brought the order- however no soup and salad. We inquired about the items and the waitress brought them and placed them on the edge of the table out of our reach. The woman never checked on us nor refilled my water or made an attempt to bring my daughter a hot cup of tea. When we were done we were ignored for another 10 minutes. The woman brought the check and again placed it on the edge of the table. After she took my card to swipe and brought it back for my signature she threw the plate with the card and receipt so hard that the card went skidding across the table. Now in the very small restaurant there was my party, a Hispanic woman dining alone, and African American woman there for take out and a Caucasian woman who was also dining alone. This waitress rushed the Hispanic woman to order and before she was finished eating began to clear the table. The woman protested and said "I'm not done". However the woman who was sitting behind us got excellent service. Hot tea, refilled water, time to order, was asked "is everything ok?"and was not rushed to finish. I did not tip and will never ever patronize this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food is fresh, with well balanced flavors and delightful combinations of textures. The specialty rolls are scrumptious eg Chefās Roll w/ the whole deep fried soft shell crab. The fish slicing, and rice layers are grievously amateur, but very generous in portions and ingredients. The wasabi was strangely old. Appreciably great quality of food for the price, if one can stand the unusual selectively premised rudeness of the service.
Please note that like many sushi places in the city, this establishment is run by Chinese American individuals; I would not expect it to be representative of non-discriminatory Japanese politeness, sushi standards, service or culture, but it is definitely far tastier than places in premium neighborhoods with worse sushi or Caucasian seafood restaurants with truly awful waitstaff e.g. Molesting people with impunity and kicking their chairs under them for trying to eat...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent to Akimoto Sushi with 4 friends and the 5 of us could barely fit into the restuarant. It is scarce on space, almost claustrophobic, so don't plan on staying too long. The food was pretty good. We got the lunch Salmon and Chicken Teriyaki bento boxes, crab salad, spicy crunchy shrimp rolls, tuna sushi, miso soup, salad, and green tea. š£ The establishment seems to be family owned as the waiters were two young boys, both between the ages of 11-15. We paid about $80 to feed 5 people which is a bargain in my book. All in all, it's a no frill Sushi spot. The food is good, the portions are decent and the prices are extremely affordable. Do not expect stellar service but do expect to leave quite satiated with...
