I could post a review ten miles long about how amazing the Almondine Bakery is, and how scrumptious and stunning its creations are at the hands of French baker Herve Poussot (magician-in-charge) and his 24-carat gold crew. Of all the countless bakeries in New York, we had the spectacularly good fortune to find the perfect one to bring the wedding cake of our dreams to life. My sister-in-law and I had stepped into the very busy but warm and welcoming bake shop to taste-test cakes after arranging an in-person appointment with Herve (he was always very responsive to e-mails). He met us right on time, spiral notepad in hand, ready to sketch images of the cake as I described my ideas - as well as demonstrate other potential creations. But all the sketching in the world could not prepare me for what was to come. After one bite (out-of-this-world delicious does not begin to describe it), I knew I had hit the jackpot. It was as if a boulangerie in Paris had transported itself to Brooklyn. Having already gotten a price estimate - which was shockingly reasonable - I exclaimed just four words: "You've got the job!" I subsequently e-mailed to Herve pictures of various wedding cakes, telling him which features of which cakes I wanted to incorporate into what would become my future hubby's and my wedding cake. To make things even more interesting, this was a destination wedding - so e-mails and clear communication were critically important. How did it all turn out? The cake was gorgeous, heavenly-tasting, and delivered on time to our reception venue - with no charge for delivery since it was considered local to the Almondine Bakery. Not that I ever plan to get married again, but if I did - it would be the Almondine Bakery, all the way....
Read moreAlmodine Bakery is a small bakery and seems like it can only accommodate a handful of people. So I ordered a latte and chocolate croissant to go. I was very tempted to get the almond croissant, but knew that the pastry's powdered white sugar would somehow get all over me. I also noticed they had a variety of other pastries, sandwiches, and quiches that looked really good
The server who assisted me was very helpful. I was acknowled by her right away. She was very pleasant and quick with my order. She made it a point to ask me what kind of milk I would like for my latte and offered to heat up my croissant.
Luckily for me the bakery's location in Brooklyn's Dumbo neighborhood is great, especially since there was no place for me to sit in their store. I was able to go around the corner and walk a short block to find a nice bench along the East River with a great view of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge. Having this moment of morning calm with a spectacular view by the water with a my cup of coffee and flaky chocolate croissant was simply a...
Read moreI went to this coffee shop today with my sister and cousin, and our experience was awful. While we were waiting to order, a man kept going back and forth adding to his family’s order. When he finally seemed done, we stepped up to place ours. The woman taking orders, who appeared to be Hispanic, was extremely rude to us for no reason.
Throughout our visit, we noticed that she was very friendly toward white customers but spoke rudely to people of color and Muslim customers. It was uncomfortable and disappointing to witness. The only positive part of our visit was the Asian lady working there, who was kind and respectful while taking our order, thank you to her for showing basic courtesy.
To make things worse, the hot chocolate was terrible. They literally heated up bottled chocolate milk right in front of us, it wasn’t sweet at all and tasted nothing like real hot chocolate.
Overall, this was one of the worst coffee shop experiences I’ve had. The rude and discriminatory behavior from the cashier was unacceptable, and we won’t be...
