The Modern Chemist - DUMBO — Local services in New York

Cute store and friendly staff at Modern Chemist DUMBO, but the pharmacy could do a way better job communicating prescription shortages and count provided to us. We have also encountered labeling errors as well.

My wife and I have been having our prescriptions filled at this location for the last year that we have lived here and there have been several instances where the pharmacist has shorted our medication, but neglected to notify us that he has done so. For example: the qty would read 30, but there would be only 5 pills in the container - which is fine b/c I understand the location may have a shortage and need to restock - but also, it’s not clear to us to how many you provided if the container states a qty of 30 and we only receive 5, shouldn’t the qty state the total amount provided?

Another example of poor documentation and communication occurred when we were supposed to be provided with two different doses of the same medication - one for 75mg and the other for 37.5mg - we received the correct dose (37.5mg and 75mg doses) in separate containers but both were labeled 37.5mg.

This is not safe practice in my opinion and the pharmacist at this location needs to consider the consequences of his actions should he provide the wrong qty or miss-label dosage when filling prescriptions. Fortunately, when we had these issues we were able to resolve them. I’m glad to others that have left reviews seem to have good experiences here, but we have not and wanted to voice our experience. 100% will be purchasing from them again. I was desperately looking for some items for my sick 1.5 year old. I called them and they were able to help me locate the item within their store (they had 1 left and offered to hold it for me!). I called back shortly after deciding it wouldn’t be a great idea to trek the baby out in the wind/rain to ask if they could deliver. They were more than happy to for a small $5 fee which I would gladly pay again for the convenience and service they offer. I called one more time (promise I’m not usually THAT customer) to ask if they could include another last minute item if they hadn’t left yet and thankfully - they hadn’t so they gladly threw the additional item into my purchase. Both of the people I spoke to were helpful, professional and more than willing to accommodate and help. I even asked if the delivery person could call me first to avoid waking the baby with the buzzer which they ACTUALLY did. To top it all off, I opened my bag to find some bonus samples in there. Do not go to this pharmacy. Pharmacists will tell you they have your prescription so you'll take a trip over there and they'll hand you a prescription. If you find yourself in this unenviable position, LOOK CLOSELY AT WHAT THEY HAND YOU! They are known to change your dosage or even your medication without saying anything. Unfortunately, if you do catch them doing this, they simply laugh and tell you "This is what we have, take it or leave it." Of course, if you have a job, you'reprobably in there after doctor's offices close so they know you're stuck; it's either go without treatment or succumb to the extortion.

And now I was just told that your pharmacist refuses to fill my medication because I left a bad review and that "it would be best if I find another pharmacy."
