The recently opened Angelina's Paris at Bryant Park undoubtedly stands as a beacon of Parisian elegance in the heart of New York City. Speaking of the brunch, my wife and I opted for the Angelina brunch, and we were absolutely enthralled by the experience. The star of the show was undoubtedly the Eggs Benedict. The brunch set comes with coffee, orange juice, 3 types of mini croissants, bread, and an assortment of jam. The eggs benny with salmon was tasty, and they gave a generous portion of salmon too. The croissant with egg and bacon was alright. The mini croissants, however, tasted like the croissants from the airport, if you had them before you’ll know it’s mid.

The fruit salad and the crepe were not good. Watermelon season is over so not sure why they chose that. Needless to say, it wasn’t fresh. The chestnut crepe tasted funky so we didn’t bother touching that...

Regarding the service, our waiter was standoffish. Carlos was his name, in case there is another staff with the same name he’s the white/hispanic chubby one (no offense intended. For lack of more exact description 🤷‍♀️)

Everyone else though, the other servers and the hostess acted professional and courteous.

Our table was missing a tissue as such we asked our waiter for one, but he simply ignored the request. Okay perhaps he didn’t hear, right? So we asked again, he said okay, but again, he ignored our request. Meanwhile, he granted the request of the table next to us very promptly and was all smiley to them while very stiff to us. Then he came back to our table and asks “Is everything good” in a sarcastic voice after having ignored us twice and not bringing us a tissue.

I guess waiters nowadays don’t want more tip? Giving him 20% felt like a waste, but I know workers these days have it hard considering this economy. So despite his despicable treatment, we didn’t reciprocate in kind since we’re obviously better than that.

I do hope they train their employees, specifically Carlos, better, because that kind of behavior is disgraceful. At least learn how to fake being polite even if you hate it. You’re getting paid for your job, so do your job correctly.

This was my first time here, I had been considering bringing some friends next time for brunch if I had an enjoyable experience, the food was passable and the vibe was nice, but this type of conduct is what discourages others from revisiting. I guess Angelina has enough business so they don’t care if they get regulars or not....

This was a really cute place to get tea and hot chocolate. The decor compliments the style of the restaurant nicely, and the entire place felt classy and vintage without looking too old.

The hot chocolate was rich and tasted very refined. Even without the cream, the hot chocolate was plenty thick and creamy. The grapefruit juice felt like it was freshly pressed, which gave it a really organic and natural flavor including all the bitterness of a grapefruit (definitely not for everyone). And the macarons were great! The texture started to feel way too consistent after eating a few, but the flavor of each macaron was still really good (rose and coffee ones were my favorite)! The madeleines were alright - there didn't seem to be much to them and felt quite bland. The mini sandwiches were great overall, with my favorite being the croque-monseuir, which had a really savory and delicious taste that was entirely unexpected for something that looked so unassuming and plain. The Scandinavian was a little too sour for my taste and the avocado toast was good, but felt lacking. The Trocadero looked extremely plain, almost like a basic ice cream bar from your local grocery market, but I was pleasantly surprised. The mousse was fluffy, creamy, and light. There were also some base layers that added texture to the pastry which made it really enjoyable. It was not a very sweet pastry, which I loved! We also ordered a cranberry pastry which I thought tasted a little basic, unrefined, and a bit overly sour, but your mileage may vary.
