TLDR: Unless you are on a tight budget AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.
The bad: Hotel staff: The hotel management is the worst I have ever experienced in my life. The manager of the hotel was discriminatory and unprofessional with me based on my age and suggested that I looked 14 (who says that?). I stayed here for a week and denied cleaning service the first two days (I didn't need it). On the third day I spoke driectly with this manager requesting cleaning service and all he said with tonality was "yes yes they will come". The room service did not come. Unprofessional.
On my first day I arrived to NYC from out of state at 6am. I called the hotel to ask if I could check-in to my room early, assuming it was ready. The check-in time is usually 4p (a downside in of itself) and the frontdesk staff said I could come at 12p. They held onto my luggage before 12p which was nice but when 12p arrived the front desk worker denied that he ever spoke to me. He was blaming me of lying and getting angry. Need I say anything more...
The room: Extremely small (I guess to be expected in NY) but also very dirty. On arrival, the sheets were dirty (hairs, foreign stains, etc). They do not have BLANKETS! The only "blankets" they provide is a thin white sheet and a coarse brown rag. Only one outlet in my entire room worked so that was fun sharing with another person. No soap of any sort provided at the sink in your room. On that note, this is a HOSTEL, not a HOTEL. The advertisement on their website is false. You are required to share communal bathrooms. If they displayed that clearly on their website I would have never stayed here. The showers in the bathroom are decently clean, but half of the nights I had to shower in ice cold water and I do not know why. Their hot water seemed to have run out? Absolutely unacceptable. The windows are and walls are paper thin, you will hear everything outside that window at night, so if you need your sleep good luck.
The good: The only redeeming quality of this hotel is it's location which is midtown Manhattan. Is central to a lot of activities which is good. Honestly, I can't think of anything else I hated this place.
Summary: If you are used to staying in rundown and dirty hostels then this place is fine. If you are coming for vacation and want any sort of decent standard of living, I would avoid this place. It may be somewhat cheaper on the price scale but I would most definitely put my money on a...
Read moreMy recent stay at the Americana Inn in New York left me deeply frustrated and feeling cheated. While the hotel itself was moderately clean, the overall experience was far from acceptable given the exorbitant price of $200 per night for a 2-star property. Here’s why:
The Room & Amenities: The room was cramped, noisy (thin walls and street sounds), and had a shared bathroom, which was not clearly communicated during booking. For $200/night, I expected basic comforts like a private toilet and reasonable space, but this felt more like a budget hostel.
The Pricing Scam: The worst part? Upon arrival, I discovered the standard rate for this room was $70/night—less than half what I paid through Agoda. I booked Agoda’s “Book Now, Pay Later” option, trusting their promise of “best prices.” Instead, I was charged nearly triple the actual rate. When I escalated this to Agoda, they dismissed my complaint, blaming the price difference on the payment method. This is unacceptable—Agoda’s “Pay Later” feature should not be a loophole to exploit customers.
Agoda’s Lack of Accountability: As a long-time Agoda user (and premium member), I’m appalled by their refusal to address this blatant overcharge. Their customer service deflected responsibility, offering no resolution or compensation. It’s clear they prioritize profits over customer trust.
Final Thoughts: The Americana Inn is not worth more than $70/night, and Agoda’s unethical pricing practices have shattered my confidence in their platform. Until they rectify this issue and protect customers from misleading offers, I urge travelers to avoid Agoda and book directly with hotels or through more transparent platforms.
Save your money—and your peace of mind.

Read morehotel wasn’t good. for about $70, it could be better, but could be worse. this hotel was actually better than the one i stayed at Syracuse, but the only difference was the location.
day 0 | once you get to the lobby, you’re greeted with a lobby that looks good. i saw the breakfast area, it looks good too. service was actually excellent; but once you get to the elevator, it was TOO small. i’m not even exaggerating when i say this, but once i got to my room, it looked like it was a house from an actual horror movie. the view from the room was beautiful, but even though you wanted to use the bathroom, you had to walk out your room, and find the nearest bathroom. these bathrooms are s e p a r a t e, which means every time you want to use the bathroom, you have to get out of your room to use the bathroom. at least there were no bedbugs when you wanted to sleep, so that was good. unfortunately there were no outlets near the bed, which means i have to sit up to use my phone.
day 1 | when we were out the whole day, my bed wasn’t fixed at the start of my outing around New York. but when i came back to my room, somehow my bed was fixed… which was rare for me since i didn’t have anyone fix my bed before. at the end of day 1, when i decided to take a shower, i tried to lock the door. it didn’t work. when i finished taking a shower, some person just came in there and left. that wasn’t good.
day 2 | checkout process was smooth, it took like 2 minutes and then we were all checked out. service was VERY good.
conclusion | if you’re on a budget for hotels, you can go for this one. otherwise, i’d recommend not choosing this hotel if you don’t like rooms that look straight out from a...
