I was so excited to finally see a new business open up so close to my home where the old Ukrainian deli had been! I ordered the artichoke sandwich today, and it was great, I'll definitely come back for it. I've never seen such a creative vegetarian sandwich which this combo of ingredients!
I will say that the only downside is the pricing--it was quite a shock because I was able to get a good-sized lunch portion for about $10 in the old deli and additional snacks and international products at reasonable pricing. Even a half lb of semolina pasta is like $7 at Arrigo's.
I realize the economy is what it is, this is a speciality deli, and the ingredients are expensive. With that in mind, my suggestion would be that half-sandwiches are available. I spent nearly $20 on one sandwich, and saved the other half for tomorrow to justify the cost, but I'm still hungry. At least if I can spend $9 on a half-sandwich, I can supplement with a snack from home. My only other suggestion is to provide additional vegetarian options!
Ultimately, you should check Arrigo's out. Even though I live so close, I likely won't be back as frequently as I'd like to be due to pricing, but again, this is a specialty deli and not a bodega. I just can't justify $20 for a (vegetarian) sandwich on any regular basis, but it sure...
Read moreFinally! A sandwich shop that overcharges and under delivers!! I checked out this spot a couple of weeks ago and was hesitant leaving a review as I’m not usually one to do so, however I’m still annoyed about my experience and had to get this off my chest. I came on a day when there was a food journalist enjoying the menu, he instructed me to try the Shaved Rib Eye (which seemed like one of the menu highlights) it looked great on his table, so I did just that. I waited a little over half an hour for my food, despite being one of three people in the shop at the time I placed my order. More and more patrons trickled in and seemed to have no issue with their orders, some of which seemed to know the chef personally. By the time my food arrived the meat was tepid (at best) although seemingly coming from the stovetop, which was an odd contrast with the cold sliced mozzarella, the saving grace was the bread which was definitely the best part of the meal (not sure if they make in-house or purchase). For a sandwich that costs nearly $20, I would have expected more. Perhaps if I worked for a publication or were friends of the establishment I would have been treated more favorably. I will definitely not...

Price: Overpriced but inline with similar spots. Ingredients: Meat, veggies, condiments - high quality. Bread: Oldschool w/ sesame seeds but high quality. Construction: Solid prior to first bite, then becomes a bit sloppy but remains charming. Highlights: Loved the horseradish mustard aioli, well done.
Arrigo's seems to be making sandwiches with an old school take. The kind of sandwich you would find from that legendary small town butcher shop that may have been around for decades. That sandwich spot in said small town you brag about and want to take your out of town friends too. I embrace this newguard of food making that is becoming somewhat popularized lately in the food community which reveres the oldschool food of the past but upgrades it in small detail with quality ingredients and simple improvements. Refreshing to see this isn't just another trendy sourdough sandwich spot if you know what I mean. Will happily go back here...
