Neighborhood buzz has been positive so we finally managed to get in there. First off, the space is VERY loud. The biggest problem is there are so many concrete surfaces and the sound bounces off of them all so it was difficult to carry on a conversation. The service is excellent. Everyone was polite and friendly and when mistakes were made, and there were, the servers went out of there way to apologize and seemed to care. My “frozen” tamarind margarita was fine, but was lacking the tartness I was expecting so they brought me over a small glass of a sickeningly sweet purée to add to my drink. All that did was make it sweeter bordering on undrinkable. Oh well, at least I had the Tajin on the rim to tone down the sweetness a little. It also wasn’t really frozen and had a strange froth to it. We ordered the Queso Fundido with mushrooms, but had to wait because they served us one with Chorizo by mistake. Once the correct dish arrived it was delicious. Served sizzling in a small cast-iron pan, the sauce was flavorful and the cheese developed a nice golden crust on the bottom of the pan that came up easily. It was really quite good. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Chile Relleno, but unfortunately I did not enjoy the mole. Mole sauce needs to be simmered over time to properly develop flavor. This sauce wasn’t bad per say, but was frankly uninspired. Also, the chicken hadn’t been seasoned before it was cooked nor had it been simmered in the sauce. So the dish left me disappointed. I suggest the chef pay a visit to El Mero Mero on the other side of the neighborhood where they will find a World-Class Mole being served. I’m glad we finally tried it and will...
Read moreDefinitely a frequent diner here — the food is consistently delicious! The margaritas are fantastic, and the Birria tacos are hands-down the best in the area. I especially want to highlight the bartender, Carlos — he's always polite, attentive, and incredibly accommodating.
However, I’ve had a repeated negative experience with one particular server. He tends to be rude, inattentive, and often forgets orders. When asked politely for a reminder, he responds with eye rolls and visible frustration. Recently, I witnessed him treat another guest very poorly — she had to go to the bar to request a drink he kept forgetting, and his response was completely unprofessional: “The drink was drank, wasn’t it?” before tossing the check at her and sarcastically threatening to charge her for extra cheese next time. It was uncomfortable to watch and totally inappropriate.
Aside from this one staff member, the rest of the team is great, and the food (aside from the beans, which I personally find unpleasant) keeps me coming back. I’ll continue to visit, but will stick to sitting at the bar to ensure a...
Read moreI cannot fully say how much my partner and I loved this place. We came in, unsure of what to expect--we only knew we liked the vibe from the existing photos on Google--and we immediately knew we're about to have a great lunch. First sign of this was when we were poured water, the server quickly noticed our table was a little off-balanced and immediately got a wedge and squared it away.
From there on out the rest of the experience only got better: drinks were amazing and made with fresh ingredients, the guacamole honestly blew us away, and our meal (we both did camarones al mojo de ajo) was so savory and perfectly cooked. So many times restaurants overcook their shrimp, but these were perfect!
To finish, we shared a flan which was honestly one of the best flans my partner ever had, which is high praise coming from her--I could only say the same.
Looking forward to come back and try the other drinks and entrees, and she's already planning on reaching out to host her...
