Beer Culture is one of my favorite bars in NYC. A haven from the madness of midtown, this intimate neighborhood haunt boasts an amazing craft beer selection (with 16 taps and an extensive variety of cans available in the fridge to stay or to-go). I also delight in the fact that next to the big fridge there is a basic fridge with basic beers for those with basic needs. And I mean this with the utmost respect as sometimes you just really need a good old miller high life instead of a fancy beer.
Be aware that this bar has a strict beer and whiskey only policy, but their selection of both is on point. The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and happy to provide recommendations. They're also fun to chat with.
I've tried most of the menu but my favorite item hands down is their cheese curds. Also of note are the bratwurst, pretzel, tater tots, and wings.
There are three televisions around the bar that play local sports or classic films at low or no volume. Nothing is ever crazy loud so it's a great place to catch up and chat with friends. We love to pop in before a play or post-show as it's in the heart of the theatre district.
In addition to beer, whiskey, and bar fare, they sell some pretty awesome merch (not embarrassed to say I sport some of their hats around town- their wool hat is my most favorite and warm winter hat).
So if you haven't gotten the message from my long winded review … Beer Culture is a...
Read moreThere was a bearded bartender who had been drinking since early on, at least from what I saw when I arrived. After several beers, I found the place amazing, and the alcohol was very good. I approached him, and since he was talking to someone else and there were obviously a lot of people, I signaled to him with my hand, pointing at him. He reacted very rudely, I imagine because he was under the influence of alcohol, as if someone was pointing in his face. It was very rude and dismissive, which I found very inappropriate considering that I am a customer. So, okay, I apologized because, obviously, I am a woman, and I felt scared. I then ordered what I wanted, he charged me, and that was that, but I find it very sad that this is the kind of service I received, and that the bartender was under the influence of alcohol while serving others. As a result, he reacted aggressively to anything that might have been misunderstood, like when I pointed at him, but it wasn’t in a bad way—it was like, “Hey, pay attention to me, I’m here,” because he was talking to other people, the music was loud, and it wasn’t intentional. I hope this doesn’t happen again, because I think it’s a very honest, nice, and cool place, but the service...
Read moreHands down my favorite bar — this place is everything you want in a great local spot. The bartenders are amazing: friendly, knowledgeable, and always quick with a great recommendation or an Underberg when you need it most. The owners are just as awesome, creating a space that feels genuinely welcoming and rooted in the local community.
The beer selection is top-tier, with a thoughtful mix of local brews, seasonal rotations, and always a few unexpected gems on tap. And if you're headed home or to a hangout, the take-out beer options are super convenient and just as carefully curated.
Whether you're a regular or just stopping by, you’ll always get a warm vibe and top-notch service. It’s the kind of place that makes you proud...
