ARGENTINA 🇦🇷 Excerpt from Eat the World NYC: It was a massive feeling of guilt that finally inspired coming inside Roosevelt Avenue mainstay Buenos Aires Bakery. On other days and other visits nearby, there was never room for even one of the shop's delicious alfajores. But after a destination fell through recently, it was time to enjoy some empanadas and mate cocido.
The corner space is tight, you immediately are surrounded by stacks of bread and cookies. Towering above are thermoses with River Plate and Boca Juniors emblazoned on the side, Argentina's two biggest football clubs. Blue and white tiles behind the counter use the colors from Argentina's flag to create the feeling.

Read moreThis bakery has good pastries but they are not authentic Argentinian flavors! Facturas have guava jam instead of “dulce de membrillo” and it seems they are made with dehydrogenated fat instead of butter which makes them greasy and yellowish instead of flaky and white. “sándwich de miga” are made of ham and pineapples (?) or cream cheese and ham (?). When I asked for a “sandwich de milanesa” they replied “beef or chicken?” 😳 milanesa is made of beef only!! The milanesa was very good though!! The chicken one is called suprema in Argentina. Their pebete sandwich was made with CHEDDAR! That is not Argentinian. I went first thing in the morning so everything should have been fresh. I had to throw everything away out of concern that it was rotten — everything was inedible. Don’t waste your money. The store also looks dirty and run down. It’s sad because the bakery has been around forever and used to be...
