ARGENTINA 🇦🇷 Excerpt from Eat the World NYC: It was a massive feeling of guilt that finally inspired coming inside Roosevelt Avenue mainstay Buenos Aires Bakery. On other days and other visits nearby, there was never room for even one of the shop's delicious alfajores. But after a destination fell through recently, it was time to enjoy some empanadas and mate cocido. The corner space is tight, you immediately are surrounded by stacks of bread and cookies. Towering above are thermoses with River Plate and Boca Juniors emblazoned on the side, Argentina's two biggest football clubs. Blue and white tiles behind the counter use the colors from Argentina's flag to create the feeling. A look behind the counter shows a heated case full of many empanadas, which can be enjoyed both baked and fried, and taken home by the dozen. Argentinian style empanadas employ a thin buttery crust that loses its form easily once you start digging in. They let the meat and spices within do the talking and are served without any sauces.

This is a great coffee and breakfast spot, grab to go, only cash. I am not a person that likes a lot of sweet foods for breakfast, so I will not comment on those, but the pan de bono, the empanadas and the buñuelos are really tastey with coffee. Also, these places are the only spots with affordable coffee anymore. A big pour with milk and sugar for less than $2. I get my breakfast and coffee for less than $5 from eliana and always have a great day.

This is such a cute small place with a bunch of different options to choose from. The woman is nice and everything looks clean. However, I did not like the taste of any of my treats, except for the meringue. They taste like they've been in the fridge for days. I really wanted to like this place.

This bakery has good pastries but they are not authentic Argentinian flavors! Facturas have guava jam instead of “dulce de membrillo” and it seems they are made with dehydrogenated fat instead of butter which makes them greasy and yellowish instead of flaky and white. “sándwich de miga” are made of ham and pineapples (?) or cream cheese and ham (?). When I asked for a “sandwich de milanesa” they replied “beef or chicken?” 😳 milanesa is made of beef only!! The milanesa was very good though!! The chicken one is called suprema in Argentina. The coffee is not Argentinian style neither (cortado or lagrima), is just a regular coffee. Very disappointing. It’s an ok bakery. Not Argentinian at all, the name Buenos Aires is...

I never write reviews but this is the worst bakery around. Their pastries are stale. The sandwich de miga tasted absolutely horrible - as if the mayo and cheese are old. Their pebete sandwich was made with CHEDDAR! That is not Argentinian. I went first thing in the morning so everything should have been fresh. I had to throw everything away out of concern that it was rotten — everything was inedible. Don’t waste your money. The store also looks dirty and run down. It’s sad because the bakery has been around forever and used to be...
