Café Standard in the East Village is one of those spots that you can sit at for hours and get lost in conversation. They have one of the best espresso martinis in town, and yes, they have the world’s only in-hotel mushroom farm! They have a personal mushroom farmer that comes in to take care of the mushrooms and harvest them so that we are able to eat them! They were so delicious and I was in awe that they were harvested from a restaurant in the East Village. They also have a fun photo-booth that I spent slightly too long in and the cutestttt match books. Definitely check this spot out before a night out or if you’re looking to get lost in convo over great cocktails. THE RUNDOWN: -Mushrooms: definitely get the mushrooms to experience the in-hotel harvest -Steak: A classic. Overall great steak with delicious purple butter -Artichokes: Perfectly seasoned -Olives/Oysters: Doesn’t get more classic than this -Cocktails: Definitely get an espresso martini here, so fluffy 📍 @thestandard

Food here was alright but nothing truly special especially for the price. We came here for dinner. Biggest surprise was the menu we received was about half of what's listed on the website which was a bummer (ex: Mushroom Terrene wasn't available for us to order) but this could be chalked up to the fact it was Thanksgiving day. Items we ordered as of 11/2023: - Gnocchi - Cooked well but the portion size was pretty small especially for the price we paid (it's not listed on the online menu but we think it was over $20). - Café Burger - $26 - Pricey burger but came with a lot of fries. Wasn't a huge fan of the peppercorn aioli unfortunately (reminded me of a thick aus ju). I'd recommend asking them to hold off on the sauce or have it on the side). - Classic Caesar - $18 - This was good. Well dressed and good size. Didn't really taste the anchovy in the croutons though. - Sorbet - $8 - Mango sorbet was good as was the strawberry (really can taste the fruit). Good palate cleanser! - House cookies - $8 - Disappointing as it was 3 small cookies and they were on the harder side. Didn't seem to be freshly made (to me anyways). Overall it was okay. Prices are typical for hotel food.

I visited Café Standard a few times staying at The Standard. The street-side courtyard is such a lovely space to sit and people-watch over breakfast - the avocado toast, macchiato, and chocolate croissant were all fresh and satisfying. Later in the day, I tried the tuna tartare and kale Caesar with hanger steak. The steak was well-cooked, but the tartare was just okay, and the salad leaned overly salty with anchovies and capers overpowering the flavors. Overall, Café Standard shines most as a cafe in the courtyard - the food’s solid, the vibe’s great, and it’s the perfect place to start your day.

We stayed the night at the Standard and decided to try the Cafe for breakfast on a Monday later in the morning around 10. The vibe is trendy and the decor is nice. I have to say that the waitstaff/servers were not very friendly and seemed uninterested in diners as they walked in. There are seats at the bar and small round tables along the wall. Several tables were occupied by people no longer eating just doing work on their computers, for such a small location I would think they would keep more tables available for diners and not people using the location as their office space. We sat first at the bar (the bartender) had his back to us for almost 10 minutes before we finally asked for menu's and coffee. A table soon opened up so we moved, again sitting for over ten minutes before being acknowledged. Finally a different server came over and said they had to brew more coffee. The food did come out fairly quickly after that but the follow-up service for more coffee/water was lacking. We had a variety, omelete with mixed greens, croissant egg sandwich and irish oats which were all very good. We enjoyed our stay and room at the hotel, I just think their restaurant staff needs some...

Just had brunch here and was very disappointed. I held the Standard to a higher... well, standard. Waiter didn’t come for 10 minutes so took a while to order, water glasses smell pretty terrible, like old lard. Bottle of still water was $9! Nine dollars, Carl! Ordered Southern Style Eggs Benedict with a side of avocado and Poached Eggs. The place is understaffed. Waiter was overwhelmed. Forgot the avocado side. The eggs benedict came with some kind of crushed (read: powder) ham over grits which was entirely way too salty and a bit burnt. The avocado came out (it was sliced half of an avocado with a little mound of salt and cayenne to the side) when I was already finished with the eggs benedict, 20 minutes later. It cost $7... for half an avocado... that wasn’t even of spectacular quality. I bet the cocktails are good though, I wouldn’t know because I don’t think I will ever come back. For what it is supposed to be (a $70 brunch for 2 people), this was probably one of the worst...
