Grey Art Museum — Attraction in New York

The show I saw about Berthe Weill was magnificent and extremely interesting. I had never heard of her before. The only problem was that a docent led tour had unofficially “commandeered” the gallery (this was not an agreed upon takeover that would have closed the gallery to the public) and a woman in charge of the tour was aggressive and rude. She expected me not to stand in front of any painting the tour was looking at or even listen to the docent which was impossible since it is a small space!! If this hadn’t happened I would have...

I went into a Friday night opening on March 1, 2024, not sure how the staff or student-staff were being trained so that they were profiling who to make welcome greeting and who not to. I was walking in with a white couple in front me, the standing staff and the counter staff gave their welcoming and brief explanation to them, when the saw m and I was about to give a friendly nod, they totally turned heads or put on a cold blank face and ignore me. Wow I wish I'd seen that last exhibition on Americans in Paris. But don't you miss this one on Parisian gallery owner Berthe Weill. An amazing gathering of paintings and prints by French artists including Picasso, Lautrec, Modigliani (ok Italian, but IN Paris), more Suzanne Valadon than I've seen anywhere before, and so much more. And it's free! And it's in a lovely space. My respect for you will increase...
