Edit: My original review is below. I have updated my rating and comments after being contacted by Kei, the salon's owner. Kei apologized, clarified the salon's policies (which are very fair to the customer), and offered to correct the situation by refunding the full amount that I was charged. I am pleased with this resolution, and feel that this salon takes it seriously to make sure their clients are treated well and have a good experience.
My original review: I booked a service online, then followed the directions on their website for a virtual consultation. I disclosed all history of my hair, including colouring, treatment and event specific products previously used. I provided photos of my current hair and photos of my desired style. At no point was I advised that I was not a candidate for the service I had booked.
When I went to my appointment, the stylist refused to perform the service, then I was charged for a consultation (despite the website saying that a virtual consultation was sufficient), as well as a full service fee, even though no service was performed (they claimed this was a late cancellation).
I was looking forward to my treatment and was very disappointed that the virtual consultation was basically useless, and then I was forced to pay for the full cost of the treatment, without receiving any service. I cannot in good conscience recommend this...
Read moreone of the worst cuts i’ve received. so far from what i asked for and they took out so much weight my scalp was showing. i asked for a mullet/shag shape and to keep it as long as possible to grow it out, and texture to prevent it going flat. over 2-3 inches had been chopped without my permission and by the time my glasses are back on my face its too late. the top was cut in round layers with only 1.5-2.5 inches left at the top of my head, they cut the layers past my occipital causing my length to shorten drastically. longer pieces by my ears were also shortened when i specified to keep them longer for a shaggy less masculine effect - and its gone and theyre uneven even with styling i said not to overdo it, and they overdid it pushing all this short hajr to my forehead- giving everything a mushroom mullet situation which looked hideous on me. what i wanted- short shaggy mullet esque style like winon ryder or that of an early scene kid. what i got- a poorly and unevenly cut mullet that makes me look like a man i got this cut in November, its not january and my hair has yet to grow back to what i came in with. if you’re looking for a real gender affirming haircut and experience this is not the place for you- if only had been able to get a long layers or some crap like that perhaps i would have had a good time- thats all what manhattan salons are...
Read moreFirst time here after extensive search for the right hairdresser. Risuko's cut and texturing styling expertise created the perfect look I was going for. She listened and advised based on what I was looking for and my hair type. She cut it so that it would work well when my old bangs as they grew out with the rest of my hair. Also had a pleasant head massage as she washed my hai, without the expected next pains you usually get at other salons.
Really appreciated the calm, comfortable, confidence Ritsuko had with my hair and the look I wanted -she definitely knew without me saying much.
I haven't experienced the same precision and attention to detail in any of my past hairdressers! When I thought she was done, there was still something she found she needed to fix to make my look perfect.
Lovely warm, modern, and minimalistic interior with a diffuser putting relaxing scents into the hair and jazz hop type music playing in the background. Very spacious, clean, and calming.
Good price! Tipped separately through Venmo, but you can...
