Do the people giving high ratings to this place have never seen a better dessert shop, or are they shills hired by the store? Lack of basic decorum in some staff: Upon entering, a server led my boyfriend and me to a narrow table right by the entrance. My boyfriend noticed a slightly wider table for two nearby (although the store had placed three chairs at this small table, crowding the entrance), and suggested we sit there. When I asked the server if we could sit there, she just stood there, seemingly ignoring us and gesturing with her eyes for us to sit at the small table by the entrance. Mandatory service charge: Honestly, I've never encountered a fast-food style dessert shop that imposes a mandatory 15% tip, especially when they have us order using a QR code on our phones. Taste relying solely on excessive sugar: Having been to many good dessert shops, the desserts here, both in appearance and taste, exhibited a fast-food style quality. Definitely, any dessert made by a fine dining restaurant would have more layers of flavor and unique taste of dessert itself, rather than achieving this through an excessive amount of sugar. Using sugar to mask the actual flavor of the dessert is something only the lowest quality dessert makers do. The only commendable part is their presentation of pouring syrup or tea on the dessert while serving and introducing it, but even this pleasant aspect was ruined by the loud background music and the bustling crowd, losing its original charm. Extremely narrow and crowded dining environment: The size of this place is almost like a small parking spot. If it's going to be this crowded, they should use a reservation system, rather than letting a dessert shop operate like a marketplace. The most upsetting incident tonight happened in this cramped space: A mother entered the dessert shop carrying a baby. As she walked past me, seated right by the entrance, a strong odor from the baby's diaper wafted by. She kept walking around the store taking photos, and the smell kept drifting around, making it impossible for me to eat my dessert or even keep it down. While I understand that it's inevitable for babies to soil their diapers, as a customer of the dessert shop, I find it utterly unacceptable. In summary, I can't believe anyone would want to come here a...
Read moreSpot is a trendy, intimate tapas style dessert bar in the East Village that specializes in expertly crafted and creatively delicious desserts. Spot offers about a dozen sweet treats for you to indulge upon. For frequent visitors you’ll find a few of their classics such as Golden Toast or The Harvest always on the menu, but you’ll also find a few seasonal selections that are worthy options depending of the time of year. All of the dishes are unique and tasty in their own regard however my recommendation, especially if you’re a chocolate lover, is to order the Matcha Lava, it is quiveringly satisfying. I equate the enjoyment this dessert offers to that of a sexual nature. The warm, moist cake completely encompasses the gooey, rich ganache that awaits inside. Your fork cuts through the warm cake with the ease that draws parallels to a perfectly braised, fall of the bone, pork shoulder. A gentle touch of the fork separates the cake and spills the chocolaty goodness onto the your dining canvas. I’m salivating as I’m reliving the experience in my mind, it is decadent, rich, and totally satisfying. The dish is served with a scoop of matcha green tea ice cream which is another exquisite pairing of flavors and temperatures to bring the dish together. You may need a smoke after you’ve cleared your plate, or climaxed, to finish off your food high. I clearly have an affinity for chocolate but the Cookie Camp is another sweet and salty alternative to address your sugar craving. This dish is served in a miniature cast iron skillet that is filled to the brim with a soft marshmallow cookie and topped with pretzels, cookie crumbs and a scoop of condensed milk ice cream. Again, the varying temperatures mixed with the multiple sweet flavors creates a ballet of stimulation amongst your tastebuds. Spot is a great change of pace dessert bar that is perfect for after dinner sweets. Also a great choice for those seeking creative desserts that pack a punch. I promise, your trip will be memorable in the sweetest...
Read moreOur party of four recently visited Spot Dessert Bar in NYC and, while we did have to endure a 15-minute wait to get seated, it was unequivocally worth every moment of anticipation. This dessert haven is a slice of culinary heaven in the heart of the city. From the moment we settled into our seats, it was evident that we were in for a unique and delightful experience. The ambiance is modern and inviting, with an artistic flair that sets the stage for the sweet journey ahead. Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the desserts. They are nothing short of extraordinary. Each plate is a masterpiece, a blend of flavors and textures that dance on your taste buds like a symphony. The attention to detail in both presentation and taste is truly remarkable. We sampled a variety of desserts, but the standouts for us were the Matcha Lava Cake and the Milky Puff. The Matcha Lava Cake was a delightful surprise, oozing with velvety green tea goodness, while the Milky Puff was a perfect balance of richness and subtlety. It's safe to say that Spot Dessert Bar has mastered the art of dessert creation. What truly elevated our experience was the impeccable service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and well-versed in the dessert offerings. Their recommendations were spot-on (pun intended) and added to the overall enjoyment of our evening. In a city teeming with dining options, Spot Dessert Bar stands out as a destination for those who appreciate the finer aspects of gastronomy. The wait may have been brief, but the memories of those extraordinary desserts will linger on for a long time. If you have a sweet tooth and appreciate culinary artistry, this is a spot you simply cannot miss. P.S: The photos aren’t great but I can guarantee that the desserts are a...
