Over rated...Do not waste your time and hard earned money. Have dined at Carvaggio several times, each time, unimpressed. Now I understand why! See the below story....
On our recent visit, one of the plates was not as expected and we discussed with the waiter who promptly offered a replacement. (The service is always excellent, staff is pleasant, eager and responsive to your every request.)
A few minutes later, comes a poorly attired, unkept man in his mid fifties who begins to berate my wife for her feedback of the dish. He begins a diatribe regarding the city and the Department of Health. His tone, demeanor and loud voice made our table and the 5-6 tables adjacent to ours extremely uncomfortable. The man goes on to justify his words and behavior because he is the 'owner'. The waitstaff apologized profusely and explain that he is an 'Italian Alpha Male' and very difficult to work with. Adjacent diner were shocked, having seen the owner's behavior.
So now we know. Organizations, including restaurants, are only as good as the leader. In the case of Carvaggio, a brusque, rude, arrogant owner who mistreats his employees and patrons.
If you value overpriced food in a uncomfortable environment, go visit Carvaggio. Otherwise, visit the hundreds of other excellent...
Read moreThere is just so much more care in everything they do at this restaurant….We felt extremely special being guests at this restaurant. Well, we felt like what we are - part of the neighbourhood community. Everyone was so attentive. Tony in particular is an icon! We were there for a late lunch. I had the watermelon mojito and it was made with fresh watermelon. The bartender checked in personally whether I liked it or not. It’s so rare for such great service to occur! My cocktail had a perfect level of alcohol, freshness and sweetness. The food was interesting but not in a way that it is fussy. It just felt healthy and made with an absolute sense of care that you felt in every bite. The individual tastes of the varied ingredients were exquisite. You could tell that the owner personally developed the bread recipe. The air holes and bounciness of the bread were to be admired! The octopus and seared calamari left me waking up this morning with a wish to go back for dinner right this evening. Oh, I should mention that we also had a delicious gluten free clam pasta and a great mixed salad. It’s the combination of exquisite homemade food made with love and sprinkled with care that should make you want...
Read moreThe food isn’t that great it’s mediocre. For $40-56 or more a plate it should taste better. The Branzino you would assume is a big fish but instead it is a tiny baby filet Fish. My friend cut it up and I was about to have a bite and lucky I looked at the piece on the fork and noticed a pubic hair or some short hair on the piece of fish. I looked at the fish to make Sure it’s not a hair but it’s clearly a hair. I didn’t want to make a scene so I didn’t say anything to my friends. The bus boy came to Collect the plates so I told Him to Please look at my plate closer and he didn’t understand, so I finally blurted out there is a hair on the fish tell ur waiter. The waiter comes back with a check and I say didn’t u see the hair on the plate and he said it wasn’t a hair the chef confirmed and I said there was a hair they obviously took it off and he said I should have told him when I saw it and I said I told the bus boy and either way it was there. And he said sorry but it wasn’t and I said sorry fish do not have pubes in their anatomy! And he said sorry u still have to pay… sooo I’m never going back to this wannabe chic restaurant that has pubes...
