I used to co/Own a business and also live nearby on Madison Ave. so I would.go here frequently about 10 years ago. The coffee, food, and staff were awesome. My business no longer exists but I work nearby. I hadn't been coming in much over the past couple of years, but when I have stopped in from time to time to grab a coffee and/or a bite at the bar I have experienced the rudest, most obnoxious behavior from those Brazilian/Latina bartenders. They are not the people that used to work here. Those girls are racist!!!! I am African American and I really try to be careful not to falsely accuse but these girls's behavior is so egregiously racist I cannot ignore it. Their contempt is very obvious when I come to the counter in their frosty staring and NEVER greeting me ( a customer). They speak under their breath in Spanish or Portugese while you are standing there so you cant surmise whether theyare insultingyou or not. I have never been so disturbed as a black woman as when I interact with them. Let me reiterate, They NEVER acknowledged me as they should a customer when I come inside. Never offer to help me or ask if they can help me as I wait so I am not sure how to proceed. And then they literally give the worst service possible with zero qualms for how bad they are with me. Then I will observe as a white customer walks in and they greet them, and socialize with them, and treat them like they are kings and queens. I have introduced plenty of international friends to Via Quadronno over the years because it was quant magical gem of the neighborhood but last Sunday's terrible interaction and service was the last straw for me. I will never go here again or recommend anyone to visit! As one who has worked in customer service ( via Art ) for most of my life I guarantee that this restuarant won't survive another 5 years due to the behavior of these horrible girls/employees!...
Read moreIn all honesty I liked the exterior, the place was pretty inside, and they have lots of amazing offerings!
The service is what made me leave 2 stars. The host greeted us while she was scrolling through her instagram - might have been the owner? Couldn't tell but had the impression. Blonde hair and very happy vibes. Definitely not rude but somewhat all over the place.
We sat at a table, waited for like, 15 minutes? Never were talked to or received water or anything. Just the paper menus and that was all. We kept looking around just to catch eyes with someone who could be a server, but no luck. They only have like 15-20 tables so there aren't a lot of people to keep track of, but it seemed like an issue with management guiding staff.
I ended up telling my boyfriend I wanted to leave, as the food looked pretty average but there was not good service - not worth the price for the experience. I got up, went to the counter to order a quick pastry and leave. The ladies at the counter were pretty nice, but more focused on talking to each other than the customers. Just felt like the restaurant staff were all on their phones, but there was one guy who was running around non stop - he looked like the main server. Poor guy was the only one really doing the work. Definitely can tell he's the heart of the operation.
Pastry - 8/10 Food offerings - 8/10 Service - 1/10 (excluding the one very nice guy, he was awesome. Black hair, somewhat tall, with an earring)
If you like to be left alone and are fine with waiting, this place would be nice! Otherwise, I'd say they need to step up...
Read moreA cozy Italian Eatery, bistro like setting given the indoor dining is closed. So it feels less like a full service restaurant even though the menu does reflect it could be. I came for a quick bite to go, figured I'd sit in Central Park to enjoy some scenery and picnic style food. It is steps from Central Park! So points for location. However the items I ordered fell flat on expectations and underwhelmed. This visit, ordered the pate, prosciutto and brie sandwich and the asparagus salad. The brie itself was excellent but the prosciutto was too fatty and the sandwich as a whole was more bread then filling. Meant to be simple and savory but it lacked in flavor and was not packed well. It was wrapped hoagie style with aluminum foil. Could have gotten the same at a deli. The pate was worse - served on two pieces of bread. It seemed to be toasted but after being wrapped in the tin foil, it was soggy and sad. Bread was completely weighed down by the pate. Pate tasted fine. Again, the to go packaging hurt the dish! So disappointing. The asparagus salad was good, asparagus cooked Al dente. But for the presentation, it was served with two hard boiled eggs, sliced. And some tomato wedges. The salad would be better served as a side dish because as a salad, it seemed to be missing ingredients or presentation. Dressing was great. The dishes all probably fare better if eaten on site....
