I love empanadas and have had some different styles - Colombian, Argentinian, Mexican, baked, fried, cheesy, not cheesy. So I was excited to try Coco's as it is super convenient on my bus route. I feel it is expensive for what you get - feels weird that they're priced the same or even more than what I've paid in Clinton Hill, Downtown Brooklyn, Manhattan. The empanadas at Coco's were freshly fried, came out fast, and crispy. I was asked if i wanted hot sauce and was excited to try a homemade salsa, but was disappointed to find it's just packets of Cholula or chipotle mayo - really common condiments I have myself at home. I got beef and chipotle shrimp, ate them fresh. They were not bland per se, but the flavor was very one-note to me - the beef just tasted salty and the chipotle shrimp, though a good texture, just slightly spicy, no dimension to the flavor. However, the empanadas are generously filled. Maybe i will give the breakfast ones or the guava and...
Read moreDecided to order it online and got a bit of everything. It’s a new location and I assume since the empanadas are their main signature dish, it would be terrific! I was wrong!
The chicken empanada had no flavor and no seasoning. No salt, no pepper. It was just shredded chicken. Very bland and I couldn’t get past two bites.
The beef empanada— same thing. As well as the cheese empanada and the sweet plantain empanada. It is as if, they shoved those things in the empanada, fry it, serve it and call it a day.
They do not add anything to make it flavorful and stand out. The food is not worth the price they charge customers. The sauce they give you is ketchup and mayonnaise mixed together, and that’s the only flavor you’ll get there. I am positively sure I will not order from there again. I’ve tried...
Read moreAlright, I ordered from them through UberEats. I regret it. This is the most bland food I've had outside of British cuisine. I ordered 1 ground beef, 2 chicken, 1 chipotle shrimp, and 1 potato. They forgot one of the chicken empanadas, first of all. When we opened them, they all looked dry and unseasoned. Even the shrimp one looked dry and unseasoned. The potato one was alright but it's kind of impossible to ruin mashed potatoes. Just about anybody with a spice rack and some pasty shells could do a better job. When the Mayochup that comes with it has the most flavor, there's something wrong here.
Oh, oh, and I forgot to mention that they're small. When I've ordered from other places they were bigger. I was surprised when the driver pulled up with a bag small enough for...
