We went here for dinner the day after Thanksgiving. It may have been by the luck of the draw, but me and my family of four had no reservation, but the host seated us immediately. They werenât highly staffed, but quickly got out our food. Our server was nice, and provided a good description of all the food me and my family asked about. The food was good, and I highly recommend the Birria, Barbacoa, Yaka Tinga, crudo of the day, tomato soup and avo mousse. The birria was nice, juicy, tender meat in a delicious, decadent broth garnished with diced onions and jalapeños, and it came with warm tortillas, rice with corn and beans. The barbacoa was flavorful, tender meat that came in a small cast iron pot and served with warm tortillas. It was garnished with cilantro. The yaka tinga were vegetarian tacos with cilantro, carrots, radishes, shredded jackfruit as meat, and topped with guac. The crudo of the day evidently changes daily, but when me and my family came, it was scrumptious scallops artfully arranged in between avocado and radish slices. It was topped with this wonderful sauce that I could not even begin to describe because of the bursting flavor profile. The tomato soup was flavorful. It had a slight spice, and was served with crispy tortilla strips and avocado slices. It was simple but amazing in flavor. The avo mousse was bright in flavor, and had notes of citrus combined with creamy avocado and granita that tasted almost like lime sorbet. It was so delicious. Everything was plated with thought and looked so gorgeous plated, but sadly I didnât get to photograph most dishes at all, nevertheless photograph them to their full glory. Although I am from New England, (which is not particularly known for Mexican food), and therefore likely unqualified to say this, but this was one of the best meals I have had, and likely the best meal I had in...
Read moreWe walked in on our way to try out shake shack. There was plenty of room for our party of 3. The waiters were friendly and very attentive. We sat next to the window but I quickly realized there were tons of air blowing down which gives me a headache. I didn't complain cuz it's only a thing that affects me. Everything was very clean.
We ordered 3 dishes. The traditional guacamole, Cauli chicharron, Mole Dulce.
The traditional guacamole was very spicy. Our daughter couldn't have it and I guess I expected to see spicy levels indicated clearly but it didn't. I also didn't read the description too clearly so obviously my fault. Didn't expect the traditional to be spicy. Despite it being too spicy for me I still ate it. It was very delicious. Recommend if you like the spice.
I glanced thru the other reviews and saw someone recommended the cauli chicharron and it didn't disappoint. It was so delicious. The crunch and the soft cauliflower at the end was so good. This dish was not spicy.
Mole Dulce, I would have loved to eat but the sauce was way too spicy for me. The pork belly was soft and tender. This time I didn't see that they indicated it would be spicy either.
Very good place but don't think I'll be returning because I don't know which dishes are spicy and not. Especially if my daughter needs food there are limited options. If a surprise is what you want. This place is for you. The foods are also very...
Read moreCovacha currently stands where formerly Cafe Frida once was. The locationâs design was surely thought out and well executed, itâs absolutely stunning. Every corner that you see shows a well executed design, even their kitchen was designed to match the rest of the establishment. The upstairs seating is also absolutely delightful, perfect for an intimate dinner with a friend or significant other.
Service was great, the gentlemen working were very attentive and helpful. It was empty when we walked in so we were seated immediately, and they were on top of our table the entire time.
The drinks were absolutely delicious, their drink menu is quite simple, it featured a few cocktails but the they were very tasty despite the few options. We tried the Mule and Jamaica Margarita, the Jamaica was great!
I canât quite say the same about the food, unfortunately we found the guacamole and the simple quesadilla to be extremely salty, unbearably salty. We also had the Pepian, which wasnât full of flavors, it was kind of bland but we actually really appreciated it because it balanced out the overly saltiness from the other plates.
Surely Iâd love to give this place another chance, as mentioned the design of the place is unique and as someone who loves a tropical setting, I surely appreciated the feeling I got when I was there. Itâs the perfect spot for a small bite and to enjoy some drinks, so letâs hope second time around there is an improvement...
