I work from home. To prevent from going nuts, I always schedule a couple of days in the city to do work in the coffee shop. I have to shout out my favorite coffee shop Ole and steen in FIDI! Itās one of the few spots in the area where you can actually sit down, enjoy your coffee, and get some work done in a clean, open, and beautifully designed space. Whether I need a quiet corner to work or a spot to recharge, or a space for a coffee date with my friends this place always delivers. What truly sets this Ole & Steen apart, though, is Tony, the barista. Tony has an unmatched talent for making the perfect cup every single timeeeeeeeee. My cappuccino is always so frothy and velvety in a way I just canāt find at the other ole and steen locations (Like truly I the fidi location coffee is much better). Thereās something about his attention to detail and care that makes every sip feel like a little luxury. Its so well crafted and still so yummy . Honestly, Iāve stopped ordering cappuccino anywhere else because they just donāt compare! P.S. Yall need to bring the cold cappuccino back to the menu because it really slaps. The pastries and lunch are also super yummy and healthy. I never feel heavy after eating. Ole & Steen Financial District, and especially Tony, youāve got a loyal fan for life. Thank you for making weekly city visits such a cozy and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA popular Danish bakery, and while my experience was mostly enjoyable, there were a few mixed moments.
I tried the Cinnamon Swirl which I had high hopes for, given the bakery's reputation. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown. The swirl looked beautiful with its golden brown layers and cinnamon sugar dusting, but the texture was noticeably dry. It lacked the moist, buttery richness that I was expecting from such a pastry, which made it somewhat underwhelming.
However, what redeemed the visit was the Vanilla Cream Cheese Spandauer - an absolute must-try. This was light, flaky layers filled with smooth, rich vanilla cream cheese. The sweetness was perfectly balanced, and the creaminess paired wonderfully with the crisp pastry shell. It was indulgent without being overly sweet, and I would come back just for this alone.
The bakery itself has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a wide range of tempting pastries and sandwiches.
Entrance faces south east and it is wheelchair accessible. Clean restrooms.
In conclusion, while my experience didnāt quite hit the mark for me, I would still recommend this place for anyone seeking quality baked goods. Iāll definitely be returning to try more of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām a big fan of Ole & Steen and always have great experiences at the Union Square and Upper East Side locations. Unfortunately, this particular branch has been consistently disappointing.
Itās the closest one to my office, which is the only reason I kept going back despite poor service. One time I paid for a cinnamon social, only to be told after the transaction that it was unavailable, and I was offered a chocolate social instead. While I paused to decide, two employees laughed and whispered to each other while looking directly at meāextremely unprofessional.
The same employee from that interaction ā at least one of them (usually there around lunchtime, wearing a hat) has repeatedly forgotten my order even after Iāve paid. Sheās usually not making the drink and is on the bakery side or working as a cashier. Itās happened enough times that I feel compelled to leave this review. Another time ā I saw an employee on the phone behind the counter and was handling pastry after they got off the phone. Immediately. Ugh.
I wonāt be returning to this location. The service here is far below the standard Iāve come to expect from the brand....
