I am not the biggest review writer but I felt compelled enough to write one about this dining establishment. First off, the pizza was good! Ordered some meatballs, a marg red pizza, and four cheese white pizza. My godson especially enjoyed the crust of the marg pizza, which says a lot because he's THE pickiest eater. Huge win! I also enjoyed the pizzas as well. The meatballs, however, were very dense, as if the meat were overworked when mixing and making the balls. If you like a tender, fall-apart meatball like I do, I would not recommend them. Sauce was okay and could be a bit more flavorful - tasted a whole lot of canned tomato sauce and not much else. I did expect better from a restaurant that has rave reviews and elevated prices. The bread that came with the meatballs was delicious though!
I also feel that the service was lacking. It was totally empty inside when we walked in, but I had to flag down a waiter the two times I needed assistance. It took me way too long to flag someone down when there were about 5 waiters all huddled toward the back near the bathroom, and only 1-2 tables of 2 people total indoors. The waiters all had their backs turned towards us and seemed to be socializing for most of the time, and when the waiter did finally catch our eye, he looked pretty annoyed to service us. I would have for sure understood and given them grace if they were busy, but, again, the restaurant was essentially totally empty. The female greeter/hostess, and the older gentleman who refilled our waters, however, seemed to be very on top of everything.
Another complaint is that the appetizers came out WITH the pizzas. It might be a nit-picky complaint, but an appetizer really is meant to come out before the main entrees. The meatballs came out with the pizzas literally 5 minutes after we ordered, which is shockingly quick... It kind of makes me wonder whether the food is made to order, or if they all sort of sit outside pre-made and are tossed into the oven for a few minutes as soon as they're ordered by someone. Keep in mind, I always appreciate food being made quickly, but this was made SO quickly to the point where it was questionable. At least the pizza did taste good, though.
Would I come back again? Yes, but I would certainly not go out of my way to come here. Maybe it was an off day, and I'm willing to give this place another shot. Pizza was tasty though, and I'm happy to give the service another chance if a friend were to...
Read moreSuper great gluten-free pizza! I returned twice during our last visit to NYC and I was again super happy. This time we returned even with bigger party of some non-gluten-free pizza lovers. All were aslo very happy with regular pizza. Of course, most excited was myself, as I really love pizza and to have a real gluten-free pizza is always very pleasant for me. As always, I don`t write many reviews, but here I decided to write a "second" one (please see below) as I wish many celiac people could find this place! Way to go! Keep it as good for ever, please. Next time I am in New York city = you will see me at your pizza place!
Let me add some key words for others to be abe to find this place on line more easy: BEST GLUTEN-FREE PIZZA IN NEW YORK CITY BEST REAL (BRICK OVEN BAKED) GULTEN-FREE PIZZA IN NEW YORK BROOKLYN
By the way I found a competition, higher up in Brooklyn where they also prepare very very good gluten free-pizza in brick oven!
Good luck! Jan As it is not possible to write multiple reviews for one place, I deleted my original review and wrote a new one. I am adding the original review from 9/2022 below: "Time is prescious, yet more than 3 months after I had the "so so awesomely awesome" gluten free pizza at this place, I took the time, to find the place on map and write this review. I am celiac since 1981 (born) and I ve had a lot. But never this good. I am bound to say that it is as good as it gets. Ive seen many "best pizzas ever" only to run into a store bought corpus. Here is truly a different story. My wife even made me to ask the waitress if it is really a G-F pizza. The nice person replied something like: "I am not celiac and I tried it and I was surprised how light and very good it is. Even better than the non GF". Ok, I promised myself to write this. So it is done. I only hope that 1) I come back and 2) They will keep it like this till the end of times....
Read moreSeated immediately by lovely staff dressed in cute Halloween costumes. Loved facing the fiery oven and being able to watch the pizza magic happen (even though I can't eat pizza). Had a delicious glass of wine (though it was not my first choice, montepulciano, which was unavailable). The tomatoes in the caprese were pretty flavorless. The mozzarella was fresh. The olive oil was bland. The basil looked a bit old. The dish was not seasoned with salt or pepper. I just added table salt and crushed red pepper flakes...the salt seemed likely to be iodized rather than sea salt, and the crushed red pepper flakes had no soul or bite to them. This was one of the only dishes on the menu that I was able to eat, and it left me unimpressed. I wish restaurants would pay as much attention to their appetizers and side dishes as they do to their main courses for the sake of people who are joining friends who are able to enjoy the main offerings on a menu. As a person with food sensitivities, I'm often left feeling disappointed in the options available to me, and when those options prove to be ridiculously overpriced and unimpressive, I am less inclined to recommend the venue to friends who can actually eat everything else on the menu. I'd like to be able to join my friends at a place they'd find enjoyable...but not at the risk of being unable to enjoy myself. I was famished, as it was my first meal of the day (at 5:30pm) and I was getting ready to perform so I needed sustenance. Also, this was my first time here, and I was invited by friends who ended up paying for my meal. Still...there is no reason for a dish as simple as a caprese salad to be uninspiring and...
