Chivito Doro has been around for a while and is always consistent with their food. Because of covid, they built an outdoor area that can hold much less people but still within the guidelines of this pandemic rules. They have heaters which raises the temperature to bearable, but as people forget to close the entrance, you can feel the cold from outside somewhat. It was still good enough to not freeze.
My favorite here is the entraña (the skirt steak) done medium. My brother gets it medium well which is always still good. I have never seen them over cook a skirt steak. We started with the huge empanadas they make which are fat and full of stuffing. We got the ground beef which is terrific. The waitresses who are here working are courteous, fast and efficient. Some have been here for years and know many of the many repeat customers. The skirt steak also comes with several choices. I get the tostones (fried green plantains), the rice and beans along with a salad. The salad I got thus time was the watercress and tomato salad. It is really fresh and crisp. They already add the right amount of vinegrette and seasoning to the salad. As I said, they are efficient. We also added an Alamos Malbec to our meal. Finally ended the meal with a flan and we were ready for bed! As I said, this is a staple place and i am happy they are able to adjust to the pandemic times. As we were leaving, there were at least 4 groups waiting to be seated and they were outside in the cold. That's how much the customers love this place.
Update Feb 18, 2024: There has never been a time that the food was bad here. It is always good. Vilma has been at this restaurant for ao many years. She even remembers the meal you prefer to have and the temperature of your steak. They are an Uruguayan Steakhouse and they prepare the steak to perfection. Always at the right temperature! They also have a chimichurri sauce on the table that accents the steak well. I usually dumped the entire contents of it on my steak. Way better than any steak sauce. They offer warm bread as you sit down and lots of butter on the side. I usually have my entrance with tostones (fried plantains) and that is more than enough to fill me. My bro has the same with a mixed salad that is super fresh , maduros (sweet plantains) and white rice and red beans. They are truly professional is making their food. Vilma also has a great demeanor and is conversational as well. Always happy to see her!!! I return...

He claims to own the spot... and to have 15 years of experience. .but I strongly wonder how can that be possible. ..with how rude.. arrogant. ..un polite. .. and in some ways ..he could sound even racist. .... and prejudiced. .... Very Bad Character. ..not showing a bit of care and concern for customers. .... Very unpleasant experience. ...as far as customer service...... i was disgusted. ...in the way my Family and I were treated. ...it was my daughter's Bday... and all we had was mozzarella sticks. ..and fried Calamari s. ....The mozzarella sticks were amazing. ..i must admit. ... the fried Calamari were good ...but not Great... Now I Was Recommended By A Great Uruguayan friend and he suggested this place. .he said the Meat was to die for... Unfortunately I didn't make it Passed the Appetizers. .. DUE TO THE EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HORRENDOUS TREATMENT. ....... I'm really sad and disappointed that we were treated in such a matter being that it was a very special night for us.... I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.... no one should be treated in such matter..... we left the place and drove away... sadly. ..bcux it was our last nite in NYC... and we were Flying back to Puerto Rico. .. in A Few hours... Happy to be far away from all those rude and arrogant hermanos. .. come to my Beloved Isla Del Encanto Puerto Rico and we will definitely show you how us happy and humble puertoricans treat our visitors. ..you will feel just at home..... and you'll definitely plan the next trip. .. i don't think I can say the same about this place .... after all that's how one should feel when he goes to a nice place to eat.... Not To Mention That To Top It All THE Prices Are CONSIDERABLY. ..High. ...It Definitely Doesn't Match THE SERVICE That Comes Along with... They should come to my Puerto Rico to learn some excellent customer service. ......
Read moreThis 3 star rating was arguably a 2 star. I’m not completely sure about all the reviews on this place that gave it such a high rating. To start, the place isn’t as well kept as I’d prefer but that’s easily overlooked, aside from the appetizer plates we got having some dirt on them.
The service had started off nice, the waitress greeted us when we walked in and took our temperatures. We were asked where we wanted to sit and sadly there was not an option to be socially distant. I was literally sitting back to back to a man and my girlfriend was right behind a family of 5.
Now to the part that gave it the 3 stars. We ordered an Entraña (skirt steak) for 2 which had enough for 4 people to be honest. It was actually cooked Medium like I asked even though it was slightly chewy. We also got a sangria which at first we thought was great, nice bit of cheap wine and fruits, then we reached the end of the 1/2 pitcher just to find a bunch of sugar still remaining at the bottom.
The ham and cheese empanada was extremely greasy, think of your NY Dollar slices, and to make matters worse, my childish girlfriend nearly choked on the steak and it seemed like no one cared or bothered to notice. I nearly had to perform CPR on her.
To top it all off, the waitress didn’t return a single time after serving our food to see if we wanted anything else. The only time she returned was to take our plates and pass us the bill. We definitely won’t be returning, but I will say their stake was good so I’m assuming their parrillada...
