Raices Colombianas restaurant — Restaurant in New York

Birthday dinner celebration in this location, party of nine. We didn’t have a reservation, but they stated that they could accommodate us, just to wait outside. After 20mins, they called our party. To our surprise, they improvised and placed us on the stage area with two folding plastic tables and chairs. One table had a cheap disposable plastic tablecloth; the other didn’t have a tablecloth; it just had the placemats. The music was loud, and we could not have a decent conversation. Since the birthday person chose this location and had high hopes for the place, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to stay. But things went downhill. The service was slow, and drinks took a while. The food took about 1hr to arrive. Water was not provided until we asked for water, and the waiter brought spring water bottles, which we said we just wanted regular water for the table. She said we had to pay for the water bottles because they ran out of clean glasses. It was not worth the time or money. Management never came to at least acknowledge the weird setup or lack of clean glasses for water. Additionally, our server seemed disinterested and inattentive. This experience really put a damper on the celebration.

Overall experience: The food was ok, the service didn’t meet our expectations, and the atmosphere was horrendous.

Being a former Friday regular pre COVID they had great cocktails. Things are not the same. I thought it was due to a rotation of their bartenders and so on another visit I observed closely that they no longer use "branded" liquor for their cocktails. Instead they use generic liquor. So the cheapest hooch liquor around yet charging upwards of $14 for a cocktail in Queens. I understand inflation but the quality of the cocktails has drastically changed. In speaking with other friends and family that also previously frequented Raices and had returned in recent weeks they also commented that the cocktails were awful. At least they don't use empty brand name bottles and fill them with cheap generic liquor, they just use the generic bottles themselves so they are open about that. But at that price point and to compromise your cocktails like that no thank you. It is a shame because as much as I like the ambience we just cannot get over the fact that the cocktails are just plain BAD. So to management and owners please review this practice because you are doing yourselves more harm than good. It is a shame. If you go STAY AWAY FROM THE COCKTAILS. For now Raices you maintain the two stars. Quality is important and there is no quality with their bar. They show great visuals on their IG but that is not the reality of their bar....

Raices is the best Colombian food in all NYC. The portions are pleasant to the eye and tummy, the taste and love that goes in to making each dish at Raices makes you want to come back again and again. This restaurant is not your typical Colombian restaurant where the main dish comes with a bunch of tossed rice and beans, no. Raices makes sure to give you realistic side portions it’s commensals will eat, the presentation of the dishes as you can see in the pictures are harmoniously put together to form a good looking plate to the eye, one you can eat, one you can finish, one you can feel good about without guilt. Raices prides itself with not only its food but the decor makes you feel at an authentic, modern, and chick Colombian restaurant. The staff here is pristine, they proud themselves in making waiting tables, a real professional job, they all work in good harmony, organized, their system works, and the chef as well as the cooks make everything so fast you won’t even feel time has passed after finishing your meal.
