One of my friends mentioned an Uruguayan restaurant that was pretty close and I couldn’t help but go right there and then - and what a good choice! As usual, I’ll explain my rating: 1. Cleanliness: zero complaints- everything was clean and ready, the staff was wearing protective gloves and facemask (we are in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic). 2. Ambient: The outside set was simple and beautiful. At first I was worried the barrier was too close but it turned out to work out perfectly. Very nice place. 3. Service: The staff was nice, welcoming, joyful... however, they lack communication when it comes to reservations. 4. Food quality: I ordered the Chivito (my personal favorite) and from the moment it got to the table, I smelled Uruguay. Delicious! 5. Price: super affordable and definitely worth it! Overall it was a great experience. Portions may be too big for one person, so go either accompanied or very hungry! Will I come back? ABSOLUTELY YES! Thank you everyone at La Gran Uruguaya!

We had invitations for a birthday and had a chance to taste several sweets from this bakery! I asked were all dessert was coming from very light not too sweets great combination of everything! My favorite was this fluffy mousse, but the caramel mini cupcake the mango parfait and the coffee cake was unbelievable! Next week I will definitely stop by pick up something. First I give them 5 stars. Than we come back the young lady was not so friendly but that’s fine with me I ordered a tuna sandwich that was fresh and huge.. I shared with my friend… but unfortunately the cakes had mold (2 different one ) don’t know what happened. My husband went back she changed for him for something else but after I wasn’t sure I wanna give it to my kids or my kids wanna eat that..:/ What a waste.

I went with my family for the second time to celebrate a couple of birthdays. At the beginning the service was excellent, they took care of us and after singing happy birthday they kept asking if we wanted more pitchers of sangria, we said no thanks and from there their attention changed a little bit. They stopped going to our table to see if we needed anything else. It was ok so far but when we get the check. We noticed some extra charges. 🤔 We were embarrassed to ask but we did anyway because we didn't order coffee or vodka shots. They updated our bill but it was wrong to do that. The food was excellent tho ... 😋but I don't think we will come back. At least not with my family, they deserve better experiences.

Update as of 8/25/24:

Wow, never would I imagine I get the exact same experience as the reviewer Pow Surfer from 2 years ago that mentioned how customer service here is deplorable, rude and that "they will make it your mistake when it was actually their "ears" not hearing correctly."

Whomever both cashiers (male staff with glasses and another one that had no facial expression) that worked on Aug 25, 2024 around 1pm needs retraining on customer service and get off their high horse because they were very pushy this afternoon. One had a pompous ‘queen’ attitude while the other is probably someone who doesn’t want to be at that job cuz he was not very responsive and looked unenthusiastic.

Despite me speaking fluent Spanish they were so cold and unwelcoming. When I asked how many minutes, the gay cashier mumbled 15 minutes so I asked again, "15?" (Mind you I have excellent pronunication and speak 5 languages) and that is when the pompous server with his heavily accented English who misheard me and raised his voice and yelled like 50!?!? FIFTH-TEEN!!! That alone is a sign.

When I came back to pick up my food, there was a new cashier guy so I told him I'm picking up my food. He asked for my name and if I paid. I said yes out of habit (since I always pay upfront when I do takeout but the pompous cashier dude told me to pay when I pick up my food) but quickly said Oh no, I didn't, let me pay. Then, from a distance, the pompous cashier starts approaching the cash register and asks in Spanish to the other cashier "Se pago?" like if I was trying to do a dine and run type of situation.

As a foodie, I took the time to come all the way from my condo in Hudson Yards to Queens to get my Uruguayan parilla and to support local minority businesses but not sure if I’ll return now, the customer service is just not there...only when they want 5 star reviews as it seems. And this my folks is how minority businesses go down, they simply don’t care about non Latino customers eating there because most of the people they serve to are those that perpetually say ‘NO ENGLISH’ and shove "Espanol" onto your faces, and refuse to assimilate into U.S. society. Food is still good but customer service, whether you dine in or takeout is a disaster it seems and unwilling to change and only 'MATTERS" when it's about wanting 5...

Stepped into Luis's restaurant expecting the usual New York hustle and oh boy, was I in for a ride! First off, Luis slings dishes with the same precision and gusto he's known for in the freight world - and let me tell you, that's saying something. If you thought he was good with cargo, wait till you see him with a plate of his signature dish.

The ambiance? Imagine if a Michelin star restaurant had a baby with a bustling freight yard. Sounds crazy, but it works! It's like dining in the heart of New York's industrious spirit, with a side of elegance.

Food-wise, get ready for a culinary journey that's as exciting as tracking a high-stakes shipment across continents. Each dish is like a well-orchestrated delivery, arriving at your table with the kind of flair that only Luis can bring - part logistics genius, part culinary wizard.

Service? The team navigates the dining floor like seasoned ship captains, navigating through the bustling tables with ease, ensuring every guest feels like their meal is the priority shipment of the night.

In a nutshell, dining at Luis's is an experience that'll leave you more satisfied than a successfully delivered cargo load. Whether you're in for a quick bite or a full-course feast, Luis and his team deliver - pun intended.

So, if you're looking for a place where the food is as dynamic as the New York freight scene, Luis's spot is your next destination. Just don't be surprised if you leave feeling like part of the crew, ready to set sail on the culinary seas....

Amazing food and very lovely staff. They have replaced pur old time favorite and purely the staff. Then when we tried the food it became both. They value your time and truly live to provide top notch service and quality food. I can't wait to dine indoor after this is all over. They make everything be a breeze, from answering your questions about the prices over phone for catering to ensuring you have everything in your order and ensuring everyone wears their mask while waiting for seating.

Love love this place.

I won't say the name of the other restaurant that we (my family) replaced BUT the place is nearby and same cuisine (if you know you know). They'd tell you there is no reservation but the friend of someone made a reservation and get a table (pre covid) then the wait time is ridiculous. They have NO PATIENCE for children and specially if yours is special needs (on the spectrum). Also if the waiter has a bad day YOU WILL BE AT THE END OF IT in every aspect of the service. Gotta repeat your order twice, ask for things constantly it is like asking your parent for something. The staff can be amazing and other times terrible. They will not pick up calls and on take out apps they don't even let you know they are not...
