El Gallo was a late-night discovery I hadn’t planned on visiting, but I’m glad I gave it a shot. The rustic aesthetic immediately made me feel right at home when I walked in. The service was outstanding—our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to check on me and my kids before I even ordered. It was a thoughtful gesture that many places overlook, so I really appreciated it. As for the food, it was a mixed bag. I tried the grilled chicken taco, which was just okay—not enough chicken for my taste, and definitely not something I’d recommend. The shrimp taco, unfortunately, was a miss—the texture and seasoning didn’t work for me, and I’d suggest skipping it. On the other hand, the steak burrito was solid. It wasn’t extraordinary, but it was flavorful and satisfying. When it came to drinks, the frozen margarita was nothing special, but the piña colada was the true standout. Not only was it beautifully presented, but it also delivered on flavor and packed a punch with its top-shelf liquor—easily in my top three of all time. For dessert, I tried the churro bowl, which came with cinnamon and ice cream. Unfortunately, it didn’t hit the mark for me; I think it’s more of an acquired taste, and it just wasn’t to my liking. Overall, El Gallo had great service and a warm atmosphere. While the food was hit-or-miss, I’d definitely return for the drinks, especially that piña colada!

this place used to be the best food in all of brooklyn a few years ago, but now it is unrecognizable. half of the meat has been removed from the menu (barbacoa torta is sorely missed), the al pastor isn't the original flavorful recipe, the tortillas arrive dry, and a singular taco costs minimum $5. there used to be a time where you could order enough stuff (including crazy shit like a taco that was inside half of an avocado) to feed a family, now it's way too expensive. this place is clearly under new management or whoever was putting love into the food got struck by lightning or some shit. it's sad because i would definitely order once a week from here, sometimes more at a certain time in my life this restaurant filled a void for me and now it makes me sick to even think about the bastardized version of the food they sell now photo from my old order (2021) is below. i would kill to go back to these times

Honestly if I could give 100/5 stars I would!! I order from here ALL THE TIME & it only gets better. My go-to is the gringa tacos with steak, it is absolutely amazing! They literally provide authentic Mexican food at great prices with phenomenal quality foods. Sometimes I get the fajita plate with the hanger steak and they always make the steak to such perfect temperature that it melts in your mouth. My kids love their rice and beans, they don’t even need a side of any meat with it as the portion is perfect. The agua frescas are all not too sweet and so perfectly refreshing. Lastly, the churro bowl dessert is A MUST TRY as its mind-blowingly delicious! I’ve dined in twice now with my family and the service never fails to amaze me. They are veryyy welcoming and accommodating. Big thanks to Dennis, Oscar & Jonathan for making our dinner very enjoyable tonight!

Update: Food Poisoning confirmed after yesterday!!

Paid over 50 dollars for an attitude, long wait and ended up with food poisoning. I have been a customer since day one. Day one. I even mentioned this to the counter person and he left before making sure our food was even ok. We were told 20 min. It’s understandable that they are super busy and have a small staff. Perfectly fine. I came out of my way to drive out here because I know the food, used to be,good. My boyfriend has a sensitive diet and we were clear about toppings etc, they ended up putting a ton I mean a ton of jalapeños we didn’t even ask for and he can’t eat spicy food so none of it was edible. I took a little bite and my lips,Tounge and back of my throat were entirely numb. All four tacos,in the garbage. The shrimp was either spoiled or made too spicy because it was awful and now I am tracking my temperature because my stomach hurts so badly and I am not a food sensitive person at all. This has never happened to me after eating anything so now I am really concerned because I never react to anything else his way. Now we’re waiting to see if I need to go to the ER. The girl who came later on to work the counter was also really nasty. We were patient and quiet and just waiting and when I asked after 35-40 min the kid said 5 minutes and 10/15 min later they bring out a couples meal that came in after us ! ! She rolled her eyes at me and asked “how many items?!” So rudely. Because I was asking where the food was and I was upset but not being rude or giving anyone a hard time. Writing this review because overall every single thing was not a good experience and after ordering here so many times over the years this was the worst and a first. The guy should of waited for us to get our food or made sure the staff checked. There should of been clear communication about wait time. Better training for the counter girls nasty attitude and please check the meats/toppings that expire. I can’t believe this right now . Never coming back I’m so...

Always an issue when you order delivery. Have tried to give them another chance time and time again but the way they always lie through their teeth has exhausted my patience. Every time I'd call to ask why my order is late (often takes 90 minutes to receive the food, and I'm an 8 minute drive from them), they'd say the driver got held up at previous address because no one answered the door. They used this same excuse 10 times in a row. This latest time, they switched up their game and said my order didn't come through their online system and went to their spam folder. I know that's not possible because I've ordered via their website and never had that issue before. Plus any competent business would take the simple step of clicking "never mark emails from this website as spam" when it comes to emails from their own website. They have horrendous customer service--won't let you cancel the order when it takes too long, no refunds or even discounts for when food takes 90 minutes to arrive and comes cold as stone. They clearly do not care about making it right for their customers, only about making off with their money. I'm done with them. I understand mistakes happen but there has not been one time where they HAVEN'T made a mistake. They charge far, far too much for such awful delivery and customer service. Cannot stress this enough--AVOID. That is, unless you want to wait hours for your food, be given the runaround and blatantly laughable excuses over the phone, and piss poor customer service, then this is the perfect...
