Had a really off-putting tall server with a man bun who kept pushing us to buy whole bottles even when we twice said that we were not interested. As soon as we sat down he says āweāre a wine bar so we encourage full bottlesā ok fair - but Iāve lived in NYC for 9 years and been to my fair share of wine bars. Normally they just start with asking are you looking for a glass or bottle tonight.
We even told him two of us wanted a red and one wanted a rose so it didnāt make sense for us to split a whole bottle. We had already had a drink at a bar before while we were waiting for our table. None of us wanted to be hungover the next day. I didnāt feel like explaining all of this but I also shouldnāt have felt like I needed to?
The craziest part was we asked for a full bodied red and he acted like that was only an option with full bottles and none of the glasses would meet that criteria. Then he flips to the bottles and starts off by suggesting a $100 bottle. Most waiters ask what price point you want first??
He again suggested we buy it and heād give us the cork to leave with it. Itās just so weirdly presumptive you think Iād want to drink half a wine bottle at home on my own? It just left an uncomfortable pushy car salesman vibe during what was supposed to be a fun girls night. The price point for the quality of food is alright. I donāt eat seafood so I mostly ate bread, butter, and charcuterie and found it to be overpriced. He also kept correcting our pronunciation of things as we ordered.
Disappointing because I wasnāt expecting such pretentious vibes from a cute...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEntre Nous recently opened in the neighborhood, and I can now clearly say that we're in trouble. Not only will our rent sky rocket with the inevitable attention it deserves, but I've visited every week trying to search for a subpar item on their menu and I haven't found it yet.
Everything has been exquisite - from their clams (I hope this never comes off the menu) to digestifs (and obviously wine program) to service and vibe. I feel like I have a local standout I'm proud to bring anybody - whether it be a wine snob friend, parent, wife, future kids in strollers. What a highlight addition of 2024! Run don't walk, find...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA gem of a little corner spot. Stopped in for a quick glass, we stayed for a couple. Gorgeous copper bar, great interior design. Stellar, atypical wine list and our bartender was highly knowledgeable, she told us quite a lot about each of the by-the-glass offerings. Their list will change frequently. And it sounds like they have an expressed intention of being a neighborhood spot by being easy to pop in on as you are, in the Parisian style.
Didnāt eat but the menu looks delish. Definitely...
