I ordered the wrong thing. I wanted the chimichanga but ordered the burrito, I guess I was thinking when I would order a burrito elsewhere there wasn’t any cilantro in it. My husband did mention to the waitress that I didn’t like cilantro but I guess because it wasn’t said no cilantro. That is exactly why I ordering the chimichanga because it didn’t have cilantro in it. I’ve only gotten the tortilla del superset 1 time. That time it was so delicious the onions were sautéed to perfection with the flavor so awesome. I said no peppers so it was all so good. Then after that they killed it with onions instead of making everything even so nothing was overwhelming the other. The next time I thought we said no peppers but there was so I had to pick them all out which was a pain. I’ve also had the Enchilada Suizas which always was so good with the chile poblano sauce. I loved the way the whole taste came together. I really liked the sauce so much that I ordered something else but wanted that sauce with it. I had to pay xtra because instead of giving you the sauce with the plate they gave you a whole order of the sauce which was way too much to go with the food but no problem if that’s what I had to do to get SOME sauce. Then they changed the sauce. It tasted like they now were grounding cilantro in it. Yuck. Are you telling me that all Mexicans & Spanish people like cilantro? Because they put it in everything & I know a lot of people don’t like Cilantro, they say it tastes like soap but I don’t like the taste or the smell. It gives me a headache. The Jaimica drink (sorrel), I love. My husband started getting the pork chops & they were really good, I couldn’t believe how good they were but of course the one time I order it, they were dry & not juicy like they always are when he gets it. I said to myself, watch when I order them they’ll be dry & that’s exactly...
Read moreEstrellita Poblana is a GO TO place! The 6 train leaves you just a few steps from the restaurant. If you decide to come driving, street parking is the only thing available... this restaurant doesn’t have a parking that i know of. It is inexpensive and their dishes are delicious. You have the option to sit in the left side of the Restaurant which i totally prefer because of the couches or benches for seating, this area feels like its more private to me. The right side is only table and chairs and you are more exposed and in the open as to people walking in and taking a look at those around you. I am a vegetarian and i still enjoy as much as everyone else. This place is open all the time or atleast we can say from experience that its open until very late. Once we wanted to take some friends out to eat and every other restaurant such as olive garden, or apple bees has closing hours at 11pm, but not estrellita... we ate and people were still walking in. At times they have a mariachi band that comes and you can call them over to sing a song for you. I would assume you give them a tip for which ever or how many songs they sing for you, this i can not guarantee how it works. There are more than 1 Estrellita restaurants in the bronx, but as far i really like this one and the one in east tremont avenue near Lehman High School. The one in little Italy near the hospital is not so much of one i would go to often its not so big... i dont like it there for making a good environment for the food but thats just me. If i have to say any negatives is that the estrellita in westchester doesn’t deliver to where i live. While the little Italy estrellita does deliver i dont have a good experience from the first and last time that i did... i believe my whole order didnt come, but that could have a been an...
Read moreThe chip and red sauce were tasty but if you are only one person placing an order to stay, they only serve you less than half the tiny white container leaving me dry with more than a half of basket full of chips.
I asked for a little more while I wait for an additional order I placed to go. And the girl said I will an extra $4, because of the owner’s rules state half of serving per person and order.
So I asked for another chicken torta and they said. Sorry it does not matter how much you order or expend it will cost $4 so half-fill the chip sauce.
A disappointing (and ridiculous) “penny-pincher” owner policy.
The food while somewhat tasty but salty at the East Tremont location, their service lacked personality and a welcome feeling. The waitress insisted that I treat myself to an alcoholic drink, which I did not want.
The bill came out to $27 with tax and w/out tip. The dissatisfaction continued when I was charged an additional 5% of the total for using a credit card. Making the bill to over $30.
I know the owner (Lionel) of the Estrellita Poblana on White Plains Rd since the 90’s and don’t know if he also has the “miser” policy as his brother who owns the restaurant on East Tremont.
Lionel restaurant on white plains road has better ambiance, quality meat, food and service than the one in East Tremont Ave by...
