Well, I am not usually someone who writes a negative review, but I was very disappointed in my visit today. After reading the reviews, I see I am not the only person who experienced, confusion when I walked in the door. Little disclaimer... I was referred to this restaurant by a friend who grew up in Queens & said this place was amazing & the best in NYC. So at that point I am so excited & ready to have this amazing food experience. We arrived at about 3:30pm, so it wasn't during peak hours. It took a few minutes to figure out who to speak with to either place an order to go or sit down to eat. Friendliness really didn't seem to be important to any of the staff until they were handing you your check. We asked where to go to stay & eat. The server said sit down. The table we sat at was full if crumbs. After we cleaned off the table, I ordered a small lemon soup, a gyro, my son had a pepperoni pizza slice, 2 waters & a $4 milkshake for dessert. Soup was good (not star quality, but decent). The gyro & pizza slice came out shortly after the soup. The pizza was nice & hot, my son enjoyed it (he's under the age of 10). My gyro was just a gyro. Nothing amazing, no reason to want to come back to buy another one. Just kind of cold & just a gyro. I will say that the serving of the gyro was a good size. I do appreciate that! Then we asked for the vanilla milkshake we told the server earlier we wanted for dessert. It was in a 20oz Pepsi paper cup. I opened the lid & it looked like melted ice cream mixed with milk in a cup. It tasted like melted vanilla ice cream, mixed with milk & extra sugar. I personally didn't like it at all, but unfortunately my son drank it before I could complain. It was gone in less than 60 secs. The server brought the check & said thank you when I handed it back so they could run my card. I received the receipt to sign & the server said you just have to sign & walked off. I tiped, signed & we got up & left. I felt like if I came back it wouldn't matter & if I didn't come back no one would care. I want to be clear... No one was mean or terrible to us, but no one made us feel welcome either. I'm glad we were able to visit a historical sight in Queens, but I don't not have to worry about coming again or bringing...
Read moreI have been going here for a few years now and thought the food was OKAY. As time went on the staff became incredibly rude and condescending. There is one gentleman who works their who is on the young side and just seems lost half the time and will just walk into you with saying excuse me or I'm sorry. I am not sure if he's incoherent but it's honestly so rude! Anytime I have asked him " please put extra garlic in the bag " he looks at me as if I just asked him to perform heart surgery. Not only that, but there is a woman who works there who must be in her late 40s. I don't know if she's the owners wife ( irrelevant ) but she's always working the front and answering phones. She has red/Brown hair and it's always pulled back. My god, when she answers the phone she screams and is soooooo rude !!! It's like do you need to act like a brute ??? Are you a viking ??? Stop screaming when people call to take orders lol. You're a woman, have SOME class. I don't care how someone acts during their personal life but you're SERVING the public! Act like a lady!!! Not to mention the food has changed and I have seen roaches recently. I am NOT ever going back to eat at Fontanas ever again their prices have gone up and for what ? Chicken that is gamey??? They charge $14 for a Caesar wrap, WITHOUT fries. WHAT?! LOL nooooooo way. I placed an order not too long ago so give them another shot. The aggressive woman said FONTANAS!!! I'm like here she goes screaming again. I said I want to place an order for a pick up. She goes ok. I said " 1 chicken Caesar salad wrap ". She said which one ? I was like is there more than one Caesar wrap ?? I said the wrap. She said you said salad. I SAID chicken....casaer...salad....WRAP! Stated on the menu. She goes there is a difference. I wanted to say " I'm a customer, are you really going to question me ". Anywho, the food made my stomach turn. Do me favor to anyone who is thinking of...
Read moreI’ve been visiting this restaurant for 19 years, ever since I was young. I always loved the food and service Fontana provided, which is why I would continue to visit after so much time. I’ve never felt so disrespected, disappointed, and unsatisfied after a phone call with who I would assume was the manager. I placed an order for pickup, which included a dish of fried calamari. Whomever had cut a hole into the deteriorating plastic lid did so in a way that large and small bits of plastic ended up all over the calamari and I did not feel safe eating it. I called the restaurant hoping to maybe receive a replacement or refund if possible, calling calmly and explaining the situation. I volunteered to show proof of the contaminated food. Only to be told that no we can’t do anything for you and to be hung up on abruptly, treating me as if I was trying to scam them, is a huge lack of professionalism and immaturity. I had never expected this kind of disrespect from a restaurant I held so fondly to my heart. I still recognize the staff that work there from when I was young, and recognize new staff when I visit. If this is how this restaurant treats their customers nowadays, then they are truly in a sad state of management that does not care for the satisfaction of their clients. To whom answered my phone call about my order, I hope you never treat anyone else like that. You make me sick. I’ve included pictures of the lid that was on top of my calamari. It was basically falling apart....
