This review is long overdue! Fujisawa is a new restaurant in the Sheepshead Bay area that has quickly became my favorite.
I originally went to order Chicken Katsu and miso soup, (my go to order when going to Asian restaurant) however upon getting there and reading the diverse and engaging menu I decided to try something new. I ordered my Katsu and soup along with the Crispy Duck Roll, Shrimp Shumai. My Katsu was fried to P E R F E C T I O N. My soup was delicious and was at the perfect temperature. The crispy duck roll was soooo good - the duck skin was crispy but the meat was juicy (a perfect combo in my opinion). The Shumai was delicious & perfectly made. I decided to keep the ball rolling by asking for a suggestion for a speciality roll and was helped by one of the staff to try the Sambal Tartare roll. And that too, was a hit! I ended the night with a classic and my favorite desert - Tempura Ice cream (green tea flavored). After desert I ordered another other round of Tartare roll, and Shumai togo to eat with my Katsu leftovers I had.
Based on the food quality, atmosphere and the customer service I expected my bill to be anywhere from 200+, but I was SHOCKED to see that my bill was only $90 and some odd change. It was to the point where I had to check if they charged me for everything lol. This restaurant is fairly priced.
I had the opportunity to thank the staff for the meal. Me and a gentlemen named Calvin (who I assume is a owner/manager) spoke for a while and he let me know they opened June 2023. I had to let him know what a great time I had at the establishment. He was very cool and friendly and genuinely wanted my input on everything. I wished him and the restaurant the very best.
I am astonished to know that this restaurant has such great atmosphere, food and service but isn’t packed with a line out the door! I hope with my review matrons will read this and decide to give this restaurant a chance. I know that soon this establishment will get the recognition...
Read moreAs of this date, this Japanese/ Asian fusion restaurant has been open for 4 months. It wasn't very busy when I was here, but it was on a late afternoon Wednesday. This restaurant is very clean, with an excellent atmosphere and music choice. The service was over the top, and possibly too good? Most of the servers didn't speak English too well, but they were eager to help.
As far as the food, I stuck with the Japanese standbys of sushi, sashimi and such. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. I've gotten so complacent with poor Japanese food that I forgot why I fell in love with the cuisine. The food is very tasty and fresh. This place is a must go, to see what I'm talking about. It may not be the best Japanese you've ever had, but compared to most of the places out there, this place is amazing. Yet the price was within reason compared to the other Japanese restaurants in the area. This is the best in the neighborhood for sure.
Parking in Sheepshead Bay of course is an issue. It's almost impossible unless you want to walk many blocks. There is plenty of public transportation though, with the Q train right there and many buses. This is also one of the better neighborhoods for exploring, so walking around is fun.
Even if you have to travel, Fujisawa is worth the trip. The food...
Read moreI had the pleasure of eating here on 11/8/2023 with my wife. Let's start with the space: I would describe it as Industrial/Chic. The owner and Manager spent alot of money on renovations and it is evident in the Nautical colors and touches near bar/sushi bar. The benches and seating area are upholstered very nicely in leather and are very comfortable. The food is very good and fresh. ROLLS: pretty good/fresh and nicely presented similar to the best places in area. APPETIZERS: outstanding. The Manager will help/and perhaps recommend what to try as they sometimes have new appetizers weekly. OYSTERS: Amazing unfortunately they only had 5 but we made the best of them. Wine/Beer: wine not extensive at moment new place but extremely fairly priced and adequate for the menu. We chose a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon and then a bottle.
Thanks Calvin and I hope you can work things out with property owner and your neighbors😯 you deserve...
