If in Kratia ... then I have not met such rudeness and terrible service anywhere in NY. Even cafes in Brighton know the rules of the restaurant business. For example, that you need to warn that if there are more than 4 people at the table, then there will be a mandatory 18% of the total amount of the check in the account. The waiters themselves do not know what turns out to be in the menu on the last page, it is indicated in small print, he had to run to the director, who suddenly opened his eyes to it. The waitress lied to the next table in front of us, who did not like the kitchen, that she was new, she was working for the first day, although earlier we came with her husband and she served us) she did not come to us after accepting the order, even when we already understood her mistake, which was recognized by other employees. They asked us to call the police, to which some lady told us in a loud tone that she was the director and we had been sitting here for what an hour, almost beggars, we could not pay the tips included. Although we were just trying to figure out why they are in one receipt, not in the other. So the paid check was simply taken away from us, and brought back for signature again with other data. Saying that it was the waitress' mistake. Which did not warn us about anything at the very beginning, although it is obliged. Even when booking, they were already obliged to say about the service fee. And yes, the fish I ate, she said it was fillet, and they brought me a whole fish full of bones) well, okay. This kind of director yelled, refused to call the police, although we asked, in the end we sat, waited, still called. Unfortunately, the police thought that we were tourists, and did not live here, and asked not to swear, but to pay and forget about it. Madame, like the director, was shaking noticeably when the police arrived, there was something to be afraid of, apparently. The sediment is terrible. They don't care about people, about service and about the quality of food. When we were there, three tables were unhappy. They sat and discussed it. If the director had initially communicated normally, explained and apologized for the employees who made a mistake, then there would have been no conflict. But as they say, a person can leave the village, but she does not (Russian speakers will understand) P.S.-The glass from which I drank was with a decent chip, it's a pity I didn't take a...
Read moreI keep vacillating between giving three and four stars to Nargis Cafe. One of my former roommates recommended it saying the he visited pretty much every time he was in the area. So last weekend, when we were looking for a place for a few of us to brunch, we elected this place.
I'll start with the good (great?). I had no idea this place was Uzbek inspired but because of it, I'll be looking for other Uzbek restaurants. We sampled several of the skewer/kebabs and they were amazing! The table unanimously agreed that the salmon was the absolute best though none were bad per se. We had a beet salad and kumquat punch to wash things down. I think this may have been the first time I had kumquat punch and it had with pear slices which my roomy was really digging. (Lot's of firsts here, I know). They also had pressed hen which looks like they've perfected the method of cooking/grilling it in that manner.
All very good and cool. Now, we were seated outside which made sense for the Covid times. Despite the temperature (~90°F), I felt comfortable in the shade under their awnings. They had a fan going which was properly angled such that I wasn't concerned about respiratory droplets being inadvertently pushed onto people. However, our waiter didn't cover his mouth and nose with his mask (he did have one). I know it was a really warm day but this was unacceptable to me. I would suggest that he could take it off entering the establishment but making sure that it was on properly as he approached our table. This is why I considered detracting merits from my rating. My party had masks on when he came by so I wasn't too worried but I have to mention it for the sake of others.
Bottom line: Go! The food is slammin'. Just be diligent with your mask. Also note that parking in the area may take several minutes so arrive to your date...
Read moreI used to go to Nargis back when it was on Coney Island Avenue and was excited to give the new location a try. The food was delicious as always and the atmosphere was nice. We sat upstairs by the windows, so the view was good. I did not like the fact that the decor did not match the food style. It was not very Uzbeki, but instead more modern chic with a black and white theme and pictures of various locations in nyc. Although the food was delicious, the service was atrocious. It started of great, though. After we ordered, we received our appetizers at a normal pace, and the waiter was as pleasant as can be. But, when we finished our appetizers, we waited for about an hour for our main course to come out, and it appeared as though our waiter was running around like a chicken without a head. After much coxing, we eventually received our main course, after which we ordered the dessert along with the check to make sure we wouldn't wait too long. A different waiter brought out the check and some of the deserts but not the other 2 lava cakes that were for my children and ran off. Our original waiter disappeared, and we were patient enough to wait 10 minutes, before flagging down a waiter to ask about the lava cake, at which point the waiter told us that they are out of lava cake, (which was already on the receipt) and asked if the kids would like ice cream instead. While the kids were disappointed , they were okay to accept the ice cream. We asked to have the lava cake removed from the check and asked for a corrected check. We waited 30 minutes to get that check. And the only reason we got it was because we all got up and went down stairs to the main room to complain. The new bill still had the 2 lava cakes. Uhhh such a...
