Absolutely appalled by my recent experience at Gyro World Flushing.
As someone who has been a loyal customer for years, I cannot express how disappointed and honestly shocked I was by what I received the other night. I usually order from this location when I am exhausted after a long day and need something reliable, comforting, and high quality. In the past, the calamari has always been excellent. It was fresh, crispy, well seasoned, and the portion was generous. I never once complained about the price because the quality and quantity always matched.
This time was completely different.
I placed an order directly through their website, which did not include any description of the calamari dish. When I got home and opened the container, I was stunned to see that more than half of it was not calamari at all. Instead, it was filled with heavily battered vegetables. Cauliflower, zucchini, and even eggplant. The batter was so thick that I could not tell what I was eating until I took a bite and realized it was not squid.
The worst part? I am severely allergic to eggplant. One bite could have sent me straight to the emergency room.
I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous and irresponsible it is to serve a dish filled with undisclosed ingredients, especially when food allergies are involved. I have never in my life seen a restaurant serve calamari like this, with random vegetables disguised under layers of batter, and no mention of it anywhere in the item description.
This is not just disappointing. It is deceptive, negligent, and completely unacceptable.
I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager, who was kind and removed the charge for the calamari. She admitted that I was not the first person to call and complain, and encouraged me to write a review so the owners would be aware. So here it is.
Cutting corners to save money by stuffing a calamari dish with cheap vegetables is already frustrating, but the real issue here is the complete lack of transparency and disregard for customer safety. This could have ended in a medical emergency for me.
I am heartbroken to say I will never order from Gyro World again. It used to be one of my favorite local spots, but after this experience, I cannot trust them.
The quality has gone down. The care and integrity are gone. And as far as I am concerned, so is...
Read moreToday was the final straw for me with this place. Been going here since it was just the corner spot when the father ran things. Food has been hit or miss lately when it used to be the best place consistently. I got home late from working and was hungry so I called to order delivery at 10pm. They took my order and told me no problem itll be here in an hour. All good I thought. Here I am almost midnight and no food. I couldve ordered somewhere else. They could've just said no. But I guess that is just the world we live in now. Im leaving this review out of pure disbelief that they would do this. I hope the owner sees this and figures out what the hell is going on with their place because if this is a sign of things to come he is gonna be out of business eventually. And YES it was a late order 30 minutes before closing but you could have just said no instead of having me waiting for something that was never coming. I could have gotten food elsewhere
UPDATE
This evening I received a phone call from Patricia. She expressed her sincere apologies for the issue that happened last night. Apparently there was an issue with the delivery driver and his ability to get the delivery information. Due to the late order he was unable to deliver. This follow up and willingness to take accountability and go the extra mile to reach out and speak with me was greatly appreciated. Thank you for reaching out and caring enough about your customer base to do this. This is rare these days and I am glad to hear that Gyro World puts its...
Read moreAbsolutely rude and unprofessional manager. No customer care! I was at this restaurant having dinner with my family. When we stepped out, we found our car that was parked right in front if the restaurant had a hit-and -run on the front bumper. Called the police and filed a report. The police went in to the restaurant since there was a CCTV that was exactly viewing my car. They said they will definitely talk to their boss and give me a call the following day. I called in the next day and the manager, Nick, told me the boss in on vacation and that they will call me back on Wednesday. Still no call on Wednesday, I called back again and Nick said, “You are being a PAIN! I can’t tell my boss what to do. I will pass on your message but I can’t do anything!” Wow... again, I had dinner at their restaurant and this mishap happened right in front of their business. Did they call back? NO. That dinner costed me couple of thousand dollars and I still don’t understand why they refused to let me see the cctv. Being called a ‘PAIN’ when you are trying to ask for help was very hurtful. Still...
