I've been coming here for many years and I live in Pennsylvania, I always come for their famous haleem, kolija shingara and delicious cha. I haven't been here since before covid started and decided to come here one night in Ramadan with my friends, we all got a bowl of haleem, we ordered 5 bowls, out of the 5 bowls, 1 bowl had a bug in it (I believe it was a cockroach) and another had an long hair (looked like a long woman's hair, all of us there were men with short hair). we immediately confronted the waiter and there was little to no remorse from the employees, sad to say I won't be coming back here anymore, I took one photo of my food which I will post before all the mishap happened

I had lunch at Haat Bazaar Restaurant and had a fantastic time. I'm going there for the first time their foods are amazing, especially the Fish menu. I order Ilish pulao, mutton kacchi biryani, and Golda chingri. I tried Ilish pulao, and Golda chingri for the first time. I'm in love with their Ilish pulao definitely trying it again. honestly, golda chingri wasn't the best I believe because it didn't taste fresh enough but if anyone went to Bangladesh they may like the fish there since they're fresher than the one we can get in the USA. The waiter was friendly and polite. If you enjoy Bengali cuisine, this is a must-try place.

“go for typical homely bangladesi/ bengali cuisines” this is a perfect place for those Bengalis/ ghotis who are missing their typical Bengali cuisines… food will bring back the taste of home/mother’s food. food items are on the display and you have the option to see them and order right at the main counter. I would keep cost in cheap range as we have ordered 10-12 items and bill was around 90. all items were good, right from baigun choup-alu bhaja-hilsa-goat curry-rohu fish with alu gobhi-kechki maach-laav chingri... cons- seating arrangement is not that attractive… it is more like around the corner type restaurant

In January 2025, they received 80 health code violations. 80. And this was after they had already been shut down once by the health department for unsanitary conditions. They should know better by now but still choose to not train their employees in cleanliness. They were also found to have mice and pests. Bengalis are embarrassing in how little they care about cleanliness and I'm Bengali. I get stomach issues everytime I eat at a Bengali place. Don't feed your family here, you'll get food poisoning. These are a few violations from the official NYC site:

  1. Hot TCS food item not held at or above 140 °F.
  2. Cold TCS food item held above 41 °F; smoked or processed fish held above 38 °F; intact raw eggs held above 45 °F; or reduced oxygen packaged (ROP) TCS foods held above required temperatures except during active necessary preparation.
  3. After cooking or removal from hot holding, TCS food not cooled by an approved method whereby the internal temperature is reduced from 140 °F to 70 °F or less within 2 hours, and from 70 °F to 41 °F or less within 4 additional hours.
  4. Raw, cooked or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan.
  5. Evidence of mice or live mice in establishment's food or non-food areas.
  6. Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage associated with (FRSA) flies or other nuisance pests in establishment’s food and/or non-food areas. FRSA flies include house flies, blow flies, bottle flies, flesh flies, drain flies, Phorid flies and fruit flies.
  7. No hand washing facility in or adjacent to toilet room or within 25 feet of a food preparation, food service or ware washing area. Hand washing facility not accessible, obstructed or used for non-hand washing purposes. No hot and cold running water or water at inadequate pressure. No soap or acceptable hand-drying device.
  8. Food, supplies, or equipment not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display, service or from customer’s refillable, reusable container. Condiments not in single-service containers or dispensed directly by the vendor.
  9. Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred.
  10. Establishment is not free of harborage or conditions conducive to rodents, insects or other pests.

  11. Non-food contact surface or equipment made of unacceptable material, not kept clean, or not properly sealed, raised, spaced or movable to allow accessibility for cleaning on all sides, above and underneath the unit.

  12. Dishwashing and ware washing: Cleaning and sanitizing of tableware, including dishes, utensils, and equipment deficient.

  13. Single service article not provided. Single service article reused or not protected from contamination when transported, stored, dispensed. Drinking straws not completely enclosed in wrapper or dispensed from a...

Please avoid this place at all cost. Horrible customer service. My 2 besties and I had dinner there on the eve of Eid. It took them 30 mins to take our order and another 20 min to serve us food. We were fasting the whole day and were starving so we ordered a few items. The server who served us was very nice and we were happy with the service/food and left a generous tip at the end. Later the same day a few hours later, my younger sister who joined us later said she was starving as she skipped both her lunch and dinner. So we took her to this same restaurant. The server who previously served us saw us at the entrance so we thought he’d come and take my sister’s order. We sat there for 20 min, no server came. Then we finally asked another server that no one came to take our order. He said didn’t you guys already eat? We said it’s not for us but for my younger sister, but the man pointed to my bestie and he’s like no this sister ate before so we didn’t think you’d order food again!! We were so horrified and felt so disrespected, we just got up and left. My sister didn’t get to eat anything, poor girl was so embarrassed. A note to the restaurant: it’s our money and our stomachs, if we wanna eat 10x, that’s none of your business. Your only job is to serve food, treat your customers right and make money. Unfortunately, we won’t be going there ever again. My poor bestie almost started crying. I would’ve given 0 stars...
