Happy hour is until 7 but it's at the bar only. You can get cocktails for $8 and hot/cold sake or beer for $5. They also have some food specials: certain apps/basic rolls ranging from $5 to $10. It's a pretty solid happy hour menu considering the location by Rockefeller Center. BF and I came on the Friday night before Christmas week at around 6. The restaurant was pretty packed but luckily the bar was not.
Cocktails are surprisingly pretty good. Usually at these types of places, they make it too fruity but not at Hama. I really appreciated that. We had a lychee-tini and a sake-tini, and some other blueberry-esque drink with shochu in it, which was also not bad. The rolls we had were pretty standard - crunchy spicy salmon, yellowtail scallion, spicy albacore and big eye tuna roll. It's like takeout sushi but will do the trick if you are craving sushi. The tatsuta age (fried chicken) was suprisingly good - nice and peppery, and perfectly fried.
I had actually been wanting to check this place out when I used to work in the area a few years ago, and I'm glad I finally did. Was it amazing? No. But like I said, for the neighborhood, I don't think you'll find a better deal. (and if you do, let a...
Read moreHad something to do near Rockefeller Center today so I randomly picked this restaurant for lunch. First time here and forgot to take photos of the food. This store located at basement. Me and my husband both had lunch sushi & sashimi set at around 12:30pm today. Plenty of seats available when we arrive, overall it’s neat and tidy. Waiter came once for taking the order and once for the check so not much I can say about the service. What I want to focus on is the food quality. The soy sauce is salty. The raw fish is not fresh and has strong fishy taste, even the salty soy sauce can’t cover that. The spicy tuna roll is more spicy than general sushi restaurants. This is probably the worst sushi lunch I’ve ever had in Manhattan. This lunch set costs $28 pp plus tax and tips. With such food quality, I would not recommend any sushi lovers to come to this restaurant. To add a note here, during the one-hour lunch at this place, I can’t see any Asian customers besides us. It’s also a good sign to rethink about the sushi and...
Read moreThe food was excellent (may have been a bit small on sushi portions but hardly the person to ask about that). The service and price point were very good. The reason for my rating is down to two things I noticed: Some tables are in really weird positions that there is no way a server could really see (ie. in a small alchove and 1 2-top next to a pillar). (Most important) The service is stretched pretty thin. It took the poor server who had me a while to see me (refer to point 1), and the time it took just to get drinks, much less appetizers seemed long. They were not even full and suffered from this. I cannot imagine how it'd be when it is packed. While I understand how difficult getting (and retaining) workers in restaurants can be, this seemed odd for a nice area.
In reality this place would get 3.5 stars from me but Google reviews does not seem to get this option. Would be game to give it another shot next time I'm in the area. The food alone...
