I used to love this place, like drive all the way from Manhattan to get some roti love this place which is what we did on Saturday and it was such a waste of time! The food has absolutely no flavor or even salt and I never EVER had oxtail that tasted like Cinnamon! Also the manager, short trini lady was rude because she informed me at the register that an oxtail double was $10 and she kept complaining how she doesn’t understand why Someone could eat oxtail with a double and I had to go back-and-forth with her then tell her that everyone is different and that I was not paying $10 for a oxtail double so she dropped the price down to seven even though I didn’t ask her to then still had an attitude about it so eventually, I had to tell her to please shut up and that I will not be returning back ever again or spending my money with her business and taking it right across the street to Ali’s.
And the first red flag that should’ve told me to turn back around was that it was a Saturday afternoon And nobody was in there no line nothing and usually there’s a line and it’s packed. A positive is that the people who did serve my food they were really nice and smiled and asked me questions and inform me about the food but once I got to the register, everything changed and I guess it’s a new manager, but they need to go back to the old management and the old kitchen staff because that food tasted like it was meant for a nursing home or something no flavor no salt and tiny portions. And my seven dollar oxtail double that I got we had to throw it out. It had so much cinnamon flavor on it was disgusting and I almost brought it back. Too bad. We ate the food when we went back home but man if we were still in the area they would’ve heard my mouth and banned me from coming back. Please don’t waste your money here there’s so many other roti shops around that are 100% much better and the manager is a lot nicer I really hope this place changes or gets better management because...
Read moreEdit:. The Pandemic and inflation has affected everything including Jens. Prices for one are way up and quantities are way down. Got some buss up here the other day the server portioned out some small pieces of chicken, w pieces of potato in the chana mic the container looked so low I asked if it was a kids meal. Then I got the Trini cut eye.
My original review is there for management to see. Consistency in taste is still good but be fair if raising prices, at least give fair portions. If I'm gonna pay alot which I always do cause I usually am buying for multiple people I want them to be satisfied especially if I am suggesting the place.
Original 4 star review: This is one of the better Trinidadian West Indian restaurant. For most who don't know Jamaican and Trinidadian restaurants have different specialties. Examples being Jerk chicken is a Jamaican staple however Roti and Stew chicken are more of a Trinidadian thing. All in all test things out to see what you like best. There are many other countries in the Caribbean and while some borrow from others only tasting will tell you what you like.
Food taste are consistently good and authentic at Jen's. Most West Indians know this is not always the case as well as professionalism but Jen's is well managed with a great staff that works quickly to take your order and they have...
Read moreI usually order from this restaurant via Uber eats. When I pick up the order I am often transporting the meal on my bike. There is a darker skinned woman here who is a pleasure to deal with. Always smiling and polite. She usually gives me a plastic bag as the paper bag they package the food in has weak handles. I tried using the paper bag and it ripped during transport so I vowed to always ask for a plastic bag. When I arrived to pick up my food today a fair skinned older woman with a stern face and nasty attitude passed me my order and when I asked for a plastic bag she refused to provide one. I could understand if she was nice about the exchange and could explain why she could not provide one but she was rude and dismissive. Her attitude was such a turn off. I hope that saving a couple cents on a plastic bag was worth losing a consistent customer because I won’t be coming back if this woman continues to work here. I wouldn’t want a woman with such a nasty attitude preparing my meal anyway. These Caribbean shop workers treat food service as if they are doing the customer a favor when in fact it’s our dollars that keep them running. There are plenty of good roti shops so be humble. Listen here Mrs. Grinch, if you don’t want to provide good service then stay home and cook your roti and curry meals in misery...
