(If you ready anything of this review, please read this): For those who live in the area, you know cafes are few and far between. I would skip this one and make the effort to walk somewhere like Lark or Babe & Al's. Not as close but much better quality and bang for your buck. Convenience doesn't equate to quality.
Got a Turkey & Cheese, Blueberry matcha, iced coffee (got this because they were out of both cold brews) and salmon and cream cheese (got this because the other two items I wanted they didn't have)
All in all food is very meh. You get a good sized sandwich but for the price and quality, it doesn't feel worth it. Maybe a personal preference but they don't toast their bread (ciabatta) and that's the most toastable bread on earth. Do they toast their bread? I don't know, if it is I wasn't asked.
The saving grace was the blueberry matcha. Other than that the iced coffee was not very good tasting.
I'm shocked cafes still use paper straws, these are a waste for everyone involved. This is version 100 of these straws and they still break apart and suck to use.
On items being out. Put up something on your menus so I know what's out. I had to ask "what do you have on the menu" since every time I said I wanted something, they didn't have it.
These are small gripes but add up quickly to a poor cafe experience. Take the 10 minute walk to another better...
Read moreI would 100% not recommended coming here at all. This experience honestly made me very bitter, since I’ve been to the Mokafe in Paterson, NJ and other locations in NYC. When I saw there was one in Flatbush, I invited my friend to try my favorite shop, only to be disappointed. The Chai Latte was served with what appeared to be expired milk, the drink was genuinely disgusting. The overpricing I can sometimes understand, but this was just not worth it.
I ordered a sandwich and requested the sandwich be warmed up since I thought this would be a given requirement of a meal consisting of cold mozzarella balls. When I asked for my sandwich to be warmed up, the server nodded at me, turned to her manager and repeated my request. The manager responds to me and says “oh, we do not have a toaster, we just have a mini oven” as if this was meant to deter me from wanting a warmed up sandwich. The fact it took over 20 minutes for a cold sandwich to be prepared is insane to me already, but looking over at me and my friend as if we’re lunatics for rejecting a cold, poorly prepared, overpriced meal, was even more insane.
The servers proceeded to just converse and work distractedly, which is maybe understandable given the small space of the establishment, but the quality of the food in accordance to the price, on top of the ASS service is...
Read moreMy husband and I live in the area so we have been patiently waiting for them to open up and today I got the pleasure of finally checking it out 😄! I have been following Mokafe on Instagram curious about their food and coffee so I am over the moon that they are now in our neighborhood. The service was great, I got the honey cinnamon latte which was perfectly made — not too sweet and tastes delicious! For food I got the Sabaya as I have been waiting to try it since following Mokafe and it was well worth the wait. Flakey, puffy, and delicious! It was served with some honey on top and it really added to the flavors in a great way. The folks there were super nice and gave me a sample of honeycomb pastry which comes cream cheese. They described it as a great breakfast food because it was both sweet and savory and it truly was the perfect combo of both. Definitely will be...
