Came here with a group of 3. Luckily, 2 parties were leaving so we didn't have to wait very long at all. It's a very small restaurant and you will have to wait unless you have reservations.
We ordered Edamame pot stickers and salmon tartar for appetizers. I've heard a lot of people rave about their edamame pot stickers and it really fell flat for me. It was just dumpling skin with what appeared to be smashed up edamame beans on the inside. It didn't taste like edamame beans at all. No salt at all. Wasn't even close in flavors. The wasabi cream sauce was pretty good, really spicy if you're not careful. The salmon tartar had HUGE pieces in it along with HUGE pieces of avocado. I didn't like it at all. Because they used big pieces, the flavors didn't blend. I liked the addition of fish eggs to the plate, but how they prepared it really destroyed the dish. In addition, you could not taste the jalapeno sauce. I didn't even know it had jalapeno sauce until I read the menu again.
For main course, we ordered Chef's sashimi, Phoenix Roll, Dragon Roll, and Spider Roll. The salmon sushi was fairly decent, meaning fresh, slightly fatty, didn't taste dry. The other sushi had extremely strong fish taste, kind of different from what I've tasted at other places. The rolls were pretty bad too. The fried soft shell crab was soggy, some pieces were crunch, but majority was soggy. Could not taste any mango in the dragon roll or eel for that matter. Probably the eel pieces were too small. However, they give you enough pieces for each roll, I think it comes in 8 pieces.
Despite tasting barely okay, for the same pricing, I would just go to some random sushi place in Manhattan and hopefully it'll taste better. I personally wouldn't recommend this place but If you do end up coming here, I would NOT recommend the edamame...
Read moreCame in for dinner on a not so busy Wednesday and was seated immediately. Server was attentive up until he took our order, but then never came back until 30 minutes later when he realized we hadn't even gotten our appetizer (whereas the table next to us was seated 15 minutes after us and well into their appetizers). No apology for the lack of service but shortly thereafter we finally got our first plate of wasabi edamame dumplings. The flavor of the wasabi sauce was good, but the texture of the dumplings felt more like a ravioli, and the filling was lackluster. For entrees, we got yaki udon, nabe yaki udon, and the Astoria roll. The yaki udon and Astoria roll were underwhelming and disappointing given the roll was a Chef's Special. The nabe yaki udon had a flavorful broth, but it would not be enough for me to come back. If I ever do, it would be strictly for take out as the service was abysmal. On the bright side, the bathroom was...
Read moreDelicious and great service. I can see why so many people order from this place. We ate in and the service was attentive and food was delicious. Bonus: portion sizes are big!
Food: We got a kani salad, two rolls (one speciality and one regular), and yaki udon. Everything came fast and the flavors were perfect. Super filling and wow that kani salad is the largest kani salad I’ve ever experienced.
Drinks: Limited drink menu but they have beer and wine. We got a sake and it was a good portion size for two people.
Service: Outstanding. Even with delivery drivers coming in and out the staff were friendly and attentive. They kept coming to refill our waters even though we were probably still good for a while.
Passed by this place for years but now we’re hooked. Excited to try the other things...
