Joe's Sicilian Bakery Inc. — Restaurant in New York

I grew up in Brooklyn near 3 kosher bakeries (in/around Sheepshead Bay), and at least 3 Italian bakeries. All had rainbow cookies, and I would always be handed one by the women behind the counters as I accompanied my Jewish or Italian grandmothers on their respective shopping trips. As the demographics of the neighborhoods have changed, these bakers no longer exist.

The last few years I’ve been searching for those cookies again (my grandparents ar now gone, so maybe it’s my way of reconnecting or remembering them), but found most of the rainbow cookies today are WAY too sweet, too “cakey”… too something, or not enough something. Whatever it was, it was never right.

Today i stopped into Joe’s Sicilian Bakery, was helped by the incredibly gracious Lidia, and bought a few cookies to try. In the first few moments leaving the store, and having already opened the box of cookies, I had to backtrack and tell LIdia and her coworkers, this was the best rainbow cookie I’ve had in YEARS. I was so grateful for the texture, taste, colors… it all worked perfectly together. I will absolutely be going back for more. If you do go, also try their plain cannoli. The shell is a bit unique compared to other cannoli. Maybe a bit of cinnamon? Nutmeg? I’m not certain, but the flavors and the cannoli cream flavor and texture work amazingly well together. I have been going to Joe's Sicilian Bakery for well over a decade and I am finally sitting down to write a well deserved review of this Italian bread and pastry mecca in Bayside, Queens. It took me so long to write this because I selfishly wanted to keep this little mom & pop shop to myself.

Joe's is a family run business that takes great pride in consistently baking the most delicious Italian breads, pastries, custom ordered cakes and pizzas. Joe's Sicilian Bakery is a throw back to a time when customer satisfaction is the number one priority. Joe's is my go to spot for our custom order birthday cakes, year round baked breads and pastries for any and all occasions.

A1+++ customer service. Lidia is a TRUE superstar!!! I ordered a half sheet strawberry shortcake and Lidia came up with a brilliant idea to accommodate what I wanted for the cake. For me, what separates good customer service and exemplary customer service is when I ask for something and if it's not possible, I'm offered an alternative. That's EXACTLY what Lidia did for me. Her brilliant idea made my relative's birthday cake EXTRA special!!! I also ordered 4 lbs of cannolis. BEST CANNOLIS IN QUEENS. Fresh, perfect taste & consistency & sweetness. Cannolis without chocolate chips are divine and Joe's is the Holy Grail. The cookies were so good as well. Thank you to the entire staff @ Joe's Sicilian Bakery.
